We stayed here for two nights recently the food is very good and good portions. I had a goats cheese with pickled walnuts as a starter - stunning. my Lancashire hotpot was brilliant , tender lean lamb, crispy ;potato top and a good tart Red Cabbage to go with it. some friends had the steak pie which was a proper... if you have never been to witherslack, i suggest you get there quick. there is a choice of some 46 pubs in the neighborhood and this one is the best by far. they have nice food and the beer is well kept

My wife and I were staying at the nearby Beech Hill House B&B, so it was only natural for us to come to the pub that was literally 50yards stumbling distance away for a drink and some food. First up we arrived around lunchtime and it was very busy, and we had our Husky Max with us. This pub is... More

Dropped in here for an early Saturday lunch after our original plans had gone awry. It was a great alternative. Service was prompt and friendly (OK, few others there at the time, filled up later), food was tasty and well prepared (and arrived on hot plates), rooms were spacious, and a wood fire added to the atmosphere. There was a... More

4 of us were looking for somewhere to eat around Grange after a winter walk. We found the Derby Arms to be welcoming, not busy and the food was very good. Not a huge menu but what they did was of a high standard and they coped well with gluten free requirements. There were 2 main courses that had gluten... More

Spent the new year with son in law's family in Bowness and popped in for lunch. Glad he booked as it was quite busy. Had our 15 month grandson with us. Nice welcome and high chair provided. Log fires, good beers and tasty food. We had fish, duck the little one had pasta. All well cooked and presented and good... More

An excellent lunch, efficient and friendly staff. Easy to find just off the A590. They were very busy but all the food we had was hot and beautifully cooked. Will definitely return.

We live within 10 miles of Grange and this is a pub that we have not visited for quite a few years , just a 100 mtrs off the start of the dual carriageway on the way to Grange-over-sands , sat beside what was the old A-road . plenty of parking with its own car park and as the old... More

Our experience here was mixed - the service was good and the value was excellent but the atmosphere isn't amazing (the traditional candlesticks on the tables are great but the bright spotlights in the ceiling maybe not). The wait for food was longish but they had a few large parties in and you can tell they cook meals to order... More

Visited today with my mum wanting just a quick bite. Looks like a fab pub and initially staff gave a friendly welcome with drinks being served quickly, however we then had to wait another 10 mins to order. We both ordered the leek and potato soup hoping that it would be served quickly. How wrong we were another 25 mins... More

Description
The Derby Arms joined the Ainscoughs Pub team in December 2008 after extensive restoration. Serving good food, beer and wine in a traditional environment with log fires and period furniture just like the rest of the pubs in the group. We have now been recommended in the Michelin Pub Guide for 2014 and have won the 'Pub of the Season' award, CAMRA. We have a games room with a pool table and dart board which is intended to form the focus of the village. The Derby Arms was purchased from Punch Taverns by the Witherslack Community Land Trust and the Ainscough Family took over the lease to preserve it as part of Witherslack life. Part of the pub was converted into the village shop, run by the community with community shareholders.
