Living in mid wales you dont often get the chance to call an evening meal an incredible experience but The Checkers certainly does offer this. We have been many times and it has already been incredible, they now have a new tasting menu which I am dying to try!

visited this month for the first time. We have visited quite a few fine dining restaurants and this is up there with the best. The food was great. I do not eat certain foods and my tastes were perfectly catered for, which meant changing one course completely. They did this at their own behest, The service was very good, staff... More

We visited Checkers with high expectations and were very pleased. The service was top notch with pleasant staff and a relaxing environment. The tasting menu was outstanding with exquisite flavours and wonderful presentation. It and made our anniversary evening perfect, and we'll most definitely be visiting again, most likely with the accompanying wine selection. Superb!

Enjoyed an overnight stay with my daughter on the final night of a cycling/eating week. Lovely room & very good meal only slightly marred on arrival by the fairly vocal "chef meltdown" ringing through the kitchen & reception area - thankfully he appeared to have recovered his equilibrium by the time service began!

We have always enjoyed visiting The Checkers as the food is excellent and the service efficient and friendly. It is by far the best restaurant in this part of the Welsh/English borders. Recently they have moved to a tasting menu only approach which does seem to be trend in many good restaurants and our visit last night was the first... More

We had visited the Checkers on two previous occasions. Now it had changed. The layout was much improved with all the diners in the more attractive front portion of the inn, with the bar relegated to the rear. A big improvement, with all the diners in one area. Now we had a tasting menu - a 5 course event. All... More

We had the 9 course tasting menu which was outstanding. I also had the wine flight which was chosen to perfectly complement the various courses. The entire meal was historic, one of the loveliest dining experiences I have ever had. We stayed overnight in a room called Pruneau, it had a very comfortable bed, lovely L'Occitaine amenities a large bath,... More

The food is cooked and presented to perfection. The prevention was worth at least one Michelin Star. The Frenchman and the Farmer's Daughters will take you into the world of sophisticated French food using fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Service is extremely efficient and helpful with any requests you may have, dietary requirements and event organisation. You almost feel like... More

Spotted The Checkers on TravelZoo, not local so also booked an overnight stay. What a great experience, extremely friendly hosts, made to feel most welcome. Our room overlooked the square was lovely, large king size bed with lovely bathroom and huge roll top bath. On to the food, we had the 8 course option. What a delight, each course beautifully... We ate here last night and I cannot praise it highly enough. Montgomery is a very small town but this restaurant was full and it was easy to see why. From the amuse- bouches and excellent variety of home-made breads through to the pudding, everything was perfection and served knowledgeably and with a true understanding of the quality of the...
