I feel a bit mean giving this place a 3 as it is clearly popular with locals and serves a purpose. It is also really quite ridiculously cheap, so hard to complain. You can so easily miss Hatherleigh as you motor down the A386. You’d be missing out on a small country town with loads of charm - and the Cafe de Ville. The cafe has its own style with a parrot and a bicycle in the window. There’s a good choice for lunch and a really friendly welcome. If you're on... More

This place has a homely atmosphere, the owners are lovely and make you feel very welcome. The few times we've been in for breakfast have always lingered on longer than we expected, due to the food being too nice to rush! Highly recommend a visit if you're in the area!

I arrived at the Cafe de Ville for lunch on the second day of my LEJOG cycle ride. Jeff and Sue were very helpful allowing me to charge my phone, and had string which I needed to make my tent more secure; it lasted the journey. The all day breakfast was great. A great cafe for any cyclist, especially on... More
