When my wife suggest 'why don't we go out' The Trooper is one of our first choices as not only do they do a Budget meal with two courses from their set menu for £15 but they also have a wide range a la carte menu but plenty of local beers and a great atmosphere.. The entire ambiance of the... More

I have been here twice. Once I didn't have the lamb, but what I did have was excellent, The second time I had the lamb and was to die for. Yes I will go again and would I try something different... I don't think I would. Even though the other dishes look great I love the lamb shanks more.

We've just been here for the third time and as all three meals, have not been disappointed! The owner is always helpful, friendly and attentive. We had the sharing platter of seafood and then my other half had steak (I wasn't hungry as it was a last minute eat-out but wouldn't turn down the sharing platter!) The plates are always... More

Nice welcoming pub with interesting decor including very interesting photos of celebrities in dining area. Good parking. I had a pint of Moondance bitter from Four Mark brewery - about 8 miles away. A lovely pint. I had baked cod to eat - delicious. Nice big piece of fish served with pesto and new potatoes. . It seemed that the... More

I have eaten at this pub twice and on both occasions the food and service were excellent. They also have a good range of local ales and a sensibly priced wine list.

We sensed something was wrong when we arrived. The waitress and the male drinks waiter did not appear to be on good terms as if they had had a row! We waited 30 mins before we asked for the menu. We then waited another 30 mins for our orders to be taken. The drinks order took a further 15 mins.... More

Atop the Hampshire Downs the Trooper remains a favourite. Electic style and approach making best use of its isolated location. You wont be dissapointed.

This was a Friday lunchtime visit, quite unplanned. My wife and I had a seriously nice experience. The staff were lovely, the food was excellent. We both had the £15 "2-course Monday-to-Thursday " menu. Only now am I reflecting that this was on a Friday....:-) With 2 medium glasses of wine and 2 small ones, the bill came to £48... More

I've known The Trooper for a few years now and it just seems to get better and better. You'll find nicely kept Ringwood ales and a menu the has something for everyone. You'll also be served by a team of helpful staff. If you want to eat it's best to book as it can get busy. It's a lovely pub... More
