The restaurant is beautiful with a view overlooking the vineyard and the river Rhein. Service is very friendly and quick. My Wiener Schnitzel was pretty mediocre but the fish was good. Overall food is decent but you are there mostly for the atmosphere. Definitely a...place to take visitors.More

This was our special night out as we heard about the high quality of food, wine and service. We were not disappointed at all from the white tomato soup as an appetizer, the veal schnitzel excellent Riesling and finished off with a high quality cheese...tray with delicious fig jam. Service was exceptional especially considering that this was the third sitting as they had the music festival in the Schloss. As this is a popular restaurant book early so as not to be disappointedMore

Visited on a sunny evening in June. Its on a hill overlooking the Rhine - and has a wonderful view. Ordered bottles of Riesling on arrival and these were delivered very quickly. The staff left us lots of time to consider the fairly short menu...- which was great as we all talked and drank. The actually order taking took a while, but I think they judged the timing well - we were already into our 2nd or 3rd glass of wine. The food starter and main courses were really good, but the sweet was a bit of a let down. We were on a large group package so I don't think we got the full menu - but what was offered was really good. A very enjoyable evening.More

Definitely the best food we had during our wine tasting trip in this region. Try the corn soup and the Schnitzel. Great service, wine selection and an astonishing view of the valley.

We were seated in the veranda overlooking the vineyards and the Rhine. We ordered a bottle of Riesling which came very quickly to the table but after it took ages for the food to come, the views compensated on the long wait but it shouldn’t...be like that... The food itself was ok , the consommé was good, the house salad had lots of interesting ingredients and with the right dressing could have been perfect. My colleagues also enjoyed their food,More

Our friends took us to this restaurant because of the view and the food. From the closed balcony you can see the vineyards right below, the Rhine river with the large barges and the lovely sunset beyond. The food was good, but the noise on...the terrace was loud. People were trying to hear what others were saying raised their voices and this made the noise in the closed terrace quite unbearable. Two waiters somehow were not enough and the service was a bit slow, the restaurant was not really crowded. We were four diners, two of us had the Lammhufte (Lamb shank) and two the Zander filet. The portions of the Zander were a bit small. I know that many German restaurants stopped serving those huge portions they used to serve in the past, but this time we left the restaurant hungry. For four main courses with 3 wine glasses and one coffee and two deserts, we paid close to $180 a bit pricey in my opinion. Service was correct, the view was lovely.More

I've been to this restaurant several times, primarily when family from the U.S. comes to visit. It's been redesigned in the past couple of years as a less-formal venue (no tablecloths any more on either the enclosed or non-enclosed terrace, when we went in May...and August 2018); the food remains very good, and it's got a great selection of its own and neighboring areas' wines as well as wines from other countries. Seating will depend partly on dress -- when our party better attired in May, we got a window seat in the terrace with its view of the vineyards and the Rhine below; in the heat of August, when the group included a T-shirt-clad teenager and all of us men were in shorts, we were seated on the outside terrace close to the restaurant's interior window (though that also kept us out of the blazing sun) (things were complicated by a Rheingau Music Festival concert in the palace, so lots of tables were also reserved). We've had no issues at all with the staff, ever; it could be that a couple of us knowing German helped in that regard.More

The view and location are wonderful, we had booked a table for dinner so that we could enjoy the sunset, that did not happen as our table was inside. We found out later with other customers that they got a table outside without reservation, but...when I went one hour before to ask the Manager a better table he refused saying that everything was already booked. The staff was not welcoming at all, waitress were laughing at us and treating my family with very rude attitude. They pretended not to speak English even the English menu was hidden to us until the last moment. The staff manager leaned maliciously towards my wife breasts with no shame at all. Fortunately we did not let them spoil our evening but I do not recommend it at all. I have a feeling which is too dangerous to think, They don't like foreigners or maybe families!More

We found this beautiful place here on TripAdvisor when we were on a road trip. The wine castle is amazingly beautiful and the restaurant has a fantastic view. We had a asparagus soup, new asparagus with schnitzel and a salad. The schnitzel was one of...the best we have ever had (and we had a few :-)) We also had two fein herb Riesling from own winery and they were also really good.More

We had lunch in the restaurant that overviews its proper vineyards and that allows viewings till the Rhine river and beyond. The served food is of good quality and comes with an OK price. The star though is the wine of the property. Johannisberg produces...perhaps the best Riesling in Germany, you should try the Gelblack (Yellow varnish). It is a perfect wine with makes from every fish dish a through feast.More
