run by a Swiss couple, the Crazy Gecko has five rooms and a great restaurant on a terrace. all in Swiss quality, but with the local charm. our dinner was just great, and fortunately the prices are not Swiss, but keep local too.

We'ved had an awesome stay at the CrazyGecko. We got two bungalows directly at the river with a shared balcony which was great because we were travelling with a befriended couple. We stayed there for three nights and we can only recommend it. The bungalows...are really great - simple, but awesome. On the balcony you have a hammock, a mattress and a table with two chairs and a great view on the Mekhong also for the moonrise!! We also ate there a few times - especially in the morning - and the food also was delicious! Especially the fish BBQ was marvelous! A catfish not to be forgotten. A special bonus goes to the owners, because they are very friendly, helpful and always caring and they gave us a lot of tipps not only for the island but also for the border to Cambodia. We ate there one night with 3 friends, first of all the food was pretty plain, no great deal and so kind of expansive for its quality. Moreover,another friend literaly got expulsed from the bar because he didn't order anything and was drinking his own...water (what a shammmmmme). I would NOT recommand this place AT ALL.More

Breakfast here was just ok, had scrambled eggs and a baguette. Nice service and nice location but food was average. Heard good things about it so would be willing to try it again.More

Went for a couple of large Beerlaos as we walked past in the early evening. Friendly service, price good. Bar was well kept and maintained. Menu looked good, but we didn't have the opportunity to eat here.

The food was really good ! The place has a beautiful view on the river and you can decide whether to sit on a chair or on the ground.

Very nice atmosphere in this lovely place. Tasty high-quality food, outstanding service, fine bungalows. As a result I spend many hours in this place and met a lot of interesting people here.More

My boyfriend and I stayed at Crazy Gecko during our 2 day stay in Don Det and we were so glad we did. We didn't book beforehand but we when we asked if anything was available, the nice man who worked behind the counter led...us to a bungalow located right next to the restaurant. This bungalow was spacious, had a good comfy bed with a mosquito net, a big bathroom and a nice terrace overlooking the Mekong equipped with a hammock, 2 chairs and a small table. There was no air conditioning but the fan did the job well. We had great authentic Lao meals at Crazy Gecko and we knew we were at THE place to eat when the place was nearly full when we had dinner there. There were a couple of times when the power went out, but it was super brief and honestly, what can you expect when you're on an island? Lastly, if you want a bike, you will have to go into town to rent one. We very much enjoyed our time at Crazy Gecko and many thanks to the kind man behind the counter who made it so much more enjoyable!More

Best place in Don Det! Cosy & clean rooms, the place is amazing to relax! The food is amazing too. We had a great time there.

Crazy Gecko on the eastern side of the island was a great stop for a drink and a meal. It was the only restaurant that had both a good river view and comfortable seating. Food and drinks were reasonably priced. We had pork lap (Lao...meat salad), papaya salad, and fresh spring rolls which were all excellent. With good WiFi signal and a small selection of board and card games available, this was a great spot to chill for a few hours.More

We spent 4 days at crazy gecko and had a lovely time. The food is amazing, Andy and his team are very attentive, friendly and helpful and do everything in their power to make one's stay as pleasant as possible. It's a bit noisy in...the morning as locals start getting out their boats, but it wasn't a big deal for us at all. We would come back here anytime to relax and chill.More
