Great service, great food, and lovely outdoor area to sit where you can watch people walk by. Loved the falafel baguette. Filling and healthy! Only downside was the toilets, a little run down and not well lit

Well, it's only late night drinks after all, but somehow they create the right atmosphere. There are bars with better selection of drinks, and bars with much more attention to detail... but somehow the black cat is just kinda easy and cool.

Awesome place to pop into on Brunswick st in the heart of Fitzroy. We had a delicious affogato for $6. Big scoop of ice cream and 2 shots of coffee! Highly recommend. Will come back. Very hip!

Gorgeous coffee shop in super hip Fitzroy with beautiful hanging plants, huge windows for much light, and yes, drought beer too. Charming staff as well.

Just happened to drop in for coffee and found this to be very pleasant place t chat and watch the world go by. Great use of an old shop front. Eclectic furnishing and decor make for an interesting look. Staff were friendly and the coffee was excellent.

Lovely relaxed lounging environment. Very limited menu meant that I couldn't eat anything there, due to a couple of food allergies. No almond milk. No gluten free bread. Staff were ok and it was nice and warm inside. Would recommend for those wanting to meet friends before dinner or have

We went there on Monday 2nd of May in the morning and a chick with dark hair was working. Despite the lack of choice, my partner ordered a banana bread. The girl was incredibly rude and arrogant. I couldn't tolerate this 5 year old behaviour if I was her boss. I went to the bathroom and then I heard her... More

This was our first time visiting Black Cat. We met up with friends that we haven't seen in ages, and although there were only three of us sitting inside, the DJ persisted to play the music at level that required shouting into the ear of the person sitting next to you on the couch. For a pub/club/larger bar this might... More

Staying in Fitzroy

Neighborhood Profile
Fitzroy is an unusual blend of working class roots, hip gentrification, and a robust bohemian work ethic. Along Brunswick Street and its side streets, you'll find little independent shops where local clothes and furniture designers display their wares. There are specialist bookshops, funky record bars, and quality vintage clothing shops where browsing is the next best thing to buying. Gertrude Street is famous for its cuisine and art galleries, but if you want to buy an old-fashioned snooker table, there is a shop for that too. Small pubs still exist, tucked away on the corners of suburban side streets that serve up traditional Sunday roasts. Live music abounds, and the street performers play so hard you worry to tip them would ruin their concentration. Venture to the Spanish quarter on Johnston Street and you may even find street dancing. It is all happening amidst off-beat street murals and the shuffle of a very funky neighborhood that embraces both old and new.
