Came here with the family - 16 of us. We'd been asked to pre-order our mains to help with logistics. No problem. Staff attentive and helpful. Food was very good - clean plates all round.

Walked in for a beer and realized no seats at the bar. Bartender wasn't friendly and he hardly looked up to acknowledge our being there. I get that food is what drives sales these days but didn't appreciate the service at all. Unfortunately will not go back. Much better pubs in other villages.

We have been to The Dolphin at Thorpeness many times and it delivers great food and value for money. This evening the four of us went for the Steak special offer which was rib eye steak salad and chips plus beer or wine for £36 for two people. The steak was locally sourced and absolutely delicious cooked just the way... More

The previous reviewer described the food as being pub grub. I must disagree, as I felt that the food we had was way beyond the usual sausage and mash, chilli or scampi. The menu focusses on good seasonal products and although a little creative, is not overcomplicated nor pretentious. The pot roasted pheasant with sausage and wild mushroom cassoulet would... More

Walked along the coast from Aldeburgh in not pleasant weather. So was pleased to find a warm and welcoming pub, with good food and service. Plus a cribbage board to allow the weather to clear before the return journey

The Dolphin is a very warm welcoming pub with a good variety of meals and prices. There is room inside outside if you just want a drink and the beach is 100 ygs away .

This pub is really geared to being a restaurant and it does it very well. The food we had was excellent and the staff were really good. We'll definitely be coming here again.

I had a really delicious meal today, the roasted butternut squash with spaghetti, spinach and pine nuts. My husband has the chickpeas and roasted cauliflower which he said was a great meal. As he said, 'we always have a good meal, at The Dolphin, never disappointed.' Lovely pub, lovely grub, lovely staff. Thank you.

Description
The Dolphin, now the hub of the community, is an ideal resting base to explore Thorpeness and our neighbouring towns Aldeburgh and Southwold, or just enjoy a peaceful walk around Snape Maltings and RSPB Minsmere reserve plus many more local must sees. A short stroll takes you to miles of unspoilt Suffolk Heritage coast and the very popular Mear, a boating lake which is on our doorstep and just up the road - The House in the Clouds.
The Head chef is passionate about local produce and the kitchen not only creates a daily changing menu for the restaurant using some of the best local producers but makes and supplies Thorpeness Village store, attached to the Dolphin Inn, with chutneys, jams, pies and pastries. As a free house the bar dispenses award winning real ales all sourced locally from independent producers including Adnams, Brandon brewery and Woodfords. We have developed an excellent wine list with wines sourced from some of the best cellars around the world featuring alongside a large selection of bourbons, single malts and port. A roaring log fire in the winter, a huge garden with barbecues in the summer and well appointed four star en-suite bedrooms, this is a genuine pub where you can expect great food and great beer served in a warm friendly environment.
