Sunday Lunch at this pleasant Gastr0 Pub in the countryside just a mile from Stevenage. Overall we had a great time but there were a couple of points that need attention to in order to reach "Excellent" Positives: All food was flavoursome, attractively presented and mostly good value. The strip loin of beef was far above the usual pub fare.... More

We were looking forward to some great food after reading encouraging reviews about this place, but when we tried to visit on 22 July, were informed that they were not doing food that day because of a private function. No signs or anything outside, so food - seeking customers had to park up and walk round to the bar to... More

We have visited the hermit on a number of occasions and have always enjoyed it, but on our most recent visit something wasn't quite right. The service wasn't as efficient as usual, and the food wasn't on its usual level. We heard the chef may have left, maybe that was the reason? We will be back and hope it was... More

It was a real pleasure to bite into a properly slow roasted and seasoned carrot - so much nicer than those horrid microwaved dishes of sad vegetables you get so often. The cauliflower cheese was really cheesy, the mange tout were crispy, the romanesco broccoli was good and the roast potatoes were good too - although a little overdone. The... More

First visit. Wonderful Sunday lunch for a birthday celebration. The staff were really helpful at giving us a table that was easy for a wheelchair. Lovely Sunday roasts for mains. Tasty starters. Too full for dessert! The pub was certainly popular and buzzing with patrons. Nice garden at the back. We will be returning.

We always receive a friendly welcome here, and the staff know the menu and are able to make good recommendations. The food is always good, especially any fish dishes that are on the menu. The kids options are always well cooked and can be tailored to suit your child's preferences. Highly recommend visiting.

This is a nicely refurbished pub which does a mixture of pub food together with some quite sophisticated dishes at dinner . We went for dinner with friends. The staff are polite and attentive . I asked for bread for the table and was told that order it fresh each day and had run out . I cam here for... More

Overpriced. Adequate pub food at restaurant prices I'm afraid. Great setting and decor, attentive staff, who when questioned seemed a little embarrassed at what they were bringing out. My sister had the vegetarian option, which was a half plate of various steamed veg. No foamy sauces to jazz it up and this was 15 odd quid! I would guess there... More
