The John Barleycorn is a typical village pub, but one that has not on survived the extensive culls of the last few years and gone on to excel without becoming a gastro pub. Real ales and ciders: These are absolutely exemplary. Probably the best pint of Greene King IPA anywhere, ditto the other regular and guest ales. There is always... More

There are 3 pubs in the beautiful village of Duxford. Our hotel was not serving food on Sunday so we tried the Plough first, nice pub, friendly, good atmosphere. Unfortunately they had stopped food at four, landlord recommended John Barleycorn. It's a five minute walk but well worth it. Thatched roof, beautiful inside with good food and friendly staff. We... Old pub, quite cosy inside. The staff is friendly. We had lunch on the way to Duxford, which was delicious. I was really impressed with beef salad. The beef was tender and good quality. My husband had sausage and mash with gravy , of course, which was tasty as well. Didn't reach the stage of deserts as we were quite... More

I went several times during my week in Duxford, and I was very impressed with the speed and courteousness of the service, along with the delicious food!

We ate dinner here one night. The pub was super charming and the atmosphere was very welcoming. It was very cool to see something a part of such history! The owner was also very kind and helpful.

After reading very positive reviews we were looking forward to visiting John Barleycorn. Although the service was ok the food was a disappointment, the decor quite oppressive and the cushions on the seats badly stained. I wouldn't recommend it.

We went to this pub on the off chance for a meal early doors on Saturday after a day at Imperial War Museum Duxford. When we walked in all the tables had reserved on them so we weren't hopeful, however the very lovely, welcoming lady behind the bar found us a table as it wasn't needed until later. The staff... My husband and I stay twice a year at the John barleycorn for business. I fell upon this country pub a few years ago and wouldn't book anywhere else. Firstly accommodation is very lovely and at a great price and a brilliant location to go and explore Cambridge, or like us use as a base for work. On to the... More

Not the first time we have visited here and an excellent experience as usual. Friendly greeting, prompt helpful service and food up to the usual standard. Not an extensive menu, and as far as we could see no specials, but the food arrived promptly and was piping hot and very well cooked. Excellent dessert to follow. It is nice to... More

Spotlessly clean with very pleasant staff, a really nice pub. Certainly the best pint of Abbott Ale that I have ever tasted. The food was excellent, all beautifully cooked, faultless, and very good value. The licensee really does care and it shows. Thoroughly recommended, without doubt the best in the area.
