This is a tale of two contrasting visits during the course of our recent fortnight’s holiday in the area. On the Friday, at the end of our first week, we went to La Bergerie in the evening to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. It was a...splendid evening - lovely table with views across the countryside and excellent service only slightly spoilt by her request to have no dressing on her salad - it was heavily dressed…. That said my oeufs starter was great as was my wife’s pork steak with spaghetti and my steak frites mains. My wife and I went the following week on 14 July, France’s National Day which might explain the difference. First there was was much less choice for the €38 Menu, I opted for the oeufs once again and my wife had the gravelax which, while it was a very generous portion had a very heavy dressing which was not to her taste. We both had the pork for our main course, we asked for frites and got sauté potatoes, ok not a serious error. However the belly of pork was very over cooked and the sauce it came with was not enough to overcome the dryness of the meat. The side salad was sodden with dressing and was a wilting mess. The tiramisu was not a tiramisu just a creamy mix. The Clafoutis was ok but was a little on the heavy side. Another plus was our demi-carafe of nice white wine and, of course, the view. Our second visit was very disappointing, maybe it was because of the public holiday, maybe a stand-in chef. The bill for our second visit came to €90 which we thought was not good value due to the quality of our main courses and deserts. So, if you go I hope you get them on a good night.More

Our hotel in Gordes recommended this restaurant and it did not disappoint. Started with a pizza - AMAZING. Followed that a salad with poached and then for the main dish a regional pork with a wine reduction sauce. Delicious! Needless to say, walking to car...was tough!More

Despite posting opening hours 7-10 pm this restaurant does not open till 8 pm . We had driven 30 mins to try it out ; the doors were open , lights on but we were told somewhat abruptly no food till 8 . We would...have waited had we been offered a table and a drink but we were shown the door . Poor communication , poor attitude . Not impressedMore

The menu is extensive but the pizza called our name and it was absolutely divine! And huge! We had great service and the place is so lovely. You'll be glad to go.

We spent a most enjoyable evening in this cosy local venue. A family runs the restaurant and we are happy to recommend this restaurant to travellers in the Luberon without any hesitation. It is a little tricky to find as they are not allowed to...erect adequate signage. But it is definitely worth the effort to benefit from this unforgettable experience.iMore

I ate here with my two children during peak summer. The food was good value for money and the service was impeccable. I knocked my wine onto my untouched pizza which the waiters noticed and tried to insist on remplacing it. When I declined they...gave me a free glass of extra wine to replace the empty one. Highly recommend this restaurant in a stunning setting.More

We ate at La Bergerie ,a lovely restaurant in a very small village tonight. My husband and I each picked different entrees and menus and after sharing and trying both we couldn’t determine which one is better. I had a lovely medium rare steak with...The best home-made french fry potatoes and a fantastic mushroom cream sauce and my husband had a pork with smash potatoes and a honey sauce. The tuna Tartare with Granny Smith apples to start was amazing as well. We just drink a pitcher of the local Luberon red wine which was served in a simple bottle but was prettyDamn tasty. The place was casual you could definitely have your kids here and was pretty inexpensive. If we were staying another day I would come back here and eat another of the wonderful dishes off the menu.More

Very nice food, the 7 hour cooked lamb was particularly good! Nice atmosphere, full of locals rather than tourists which is always a good sign.

Wonderful evening meal at this restaurant, offering beautiful views of the distant mountains. Excellent service and I highly recommend the oeuf cocette dish, which was a real treat. We also sampled the Americano cocktail and it was really very good. We had two vegetarians with...us, and they had a couple of dishes to choose from. Overall highly recommended!More

La Bergerie is a busy local restaurant for tourists and locals. It has an authentic and had rustic charm. The waiting staff spoke some English which is always helpful if your struggling with the language, menu was all in french. We had a nice meal...and nice wine and overall had a lovely evening on the terrace. I would say that the prices are a little higher than neighbouring villages so not a cheap night out. Would recommend.More

The wine was nice enough and the waiters friendly enough, but the food was overall not really very good. I wouldn't go again, and I wouldn't recommend it. 35€ per person, with two glasses of wine each, splitting an appetizer, and 1 main each. (no...dessert and one of the mains was a salad). Reflecting on the meals we just had in Arles for €8 per person more (and that was with an appetizer each and a dessert each!), this doesn't even come close to comparing.More

I am a regular at La Bergerie, who are worthy of a particular mention for being open all year round. My most recent visit was for Sunday lunch on a cold day In January. Cold outdoors, but warm and welcoming in La Bergerie, with its...traditional decor and log fire burning in the grate. The restaurant was packed, mainly with local regulars - always a good sign. My Ravioli starter arrived sizzling on the plate, banishing any lingering chill from outside. The Daube de Boeuf arrived in a powerful black olive sauce, with mash, a perfect meal for a winter's day. Whilst the main was traditional, almost rustic in nature, the trio of miniature desserts of the café gourmet were delicate, yet punchy. The mini chocolate fondant, still oozing in the middle was a marvel, the panacotta sweet and fruity, and the baba was dripping with rum. A great restaurant, and even better for its all year service, while so many others at this time have their fermeture annuelle.More

The restaurant lies on the edge of the old part of Maubec, near the church. We sat on an attractive terrace overlooking an open area of land that had been a vineyard. We both chose the daily menu at 15euro. This started with a big...slice of quiche and salad, Basque chicken, and ended with ice cream. A very good lunch! With a 50cl pichet of house rose and coffee, we paid a very reasonable 44euro in total. the service was good and we left happy. We will return when next on holiday in Provence.More
