We found this place through a TripAdvisor search and decided to explore and so very pleased that we did. It’s off the main street away from all the tourist Tavernas. We had a lovely welcome and as both of us don’t drink alcohol, they created...a special his and hers non-alcoholic cocktails, which were delightful. The menu was very different from the norm and a welcome treat. Gorgeously and freshly prepared and it tasted really delicious. We highly recommend this restaurant, if you’d like something a bit special. The service was fabulous and we enjoyed learning about the story of how it was created. There are some very special people running the place, quite unique and we highly recommend it.More
It is an oasis of real taste Greek food among the “touristic” tavernas in the area. The creations of the chefs are excellent and the food is delicious. The service also was very good. Value for money is excellent since the quality of food offered...is definitely the best we have tried in Platanes. Don’t miss the chance to try it !!!More
After reading the reviews on TripAdvisor, we knew this was the place for us. We were concerned we would not be able to get a table, so we 1) emailed for a reservation and 2) were there 15 mintues before opening. We were met by...the amiable Manuel, a charming sweet host, who welcomed us warmly and invited us to select a table. Soon, one of the owners, Steven, approached us and welcomed us exceedingly warmly. He told us of his family connection and how they made their own wine, olive oil and saw to everything connected to the Taverna. He was so delightful to speak with, we almost forgot to look at the menu. Almost. We immediately ordered some of the house wine which was, to our palates, the most delicious we have had since we arrived in Crete almost three weeks ago (and we've drunk a few bottles). Steven made some recommendations including the dolmades (I am not a fan, the leaves are too leathery) but he convinced us to try. They were amazing and the lemon sauce was beyond belief. We ordered, as well, the smoked eggplant dip, the souzoutzakia (meatballs) and the filet of pork with vegetables. Each was truly delicious. We particularly enjoyed the pork, perfectly seasoned and tender. But we also ate the aubergine dip and souzoutzakia with gusto, being mindful that we both had entrees coming, and the dolmades were the most delicious I have ever had; the lemon parsley sauce was the perfect accompaniment. The lamb shank over orzo was a fantastic combination. I was obsessed with the orzo, which had been seasoned with fresh green onions, red peppers, grated cheese and a scrumptious sauce which was a perfect home for the considerable shank which landed in its midst. Unlike many other lamb shanks I've had, this was not filled with fat but was a highly lean and perfectly tender cut. My companion had the Lamb Kleftiko which was as beautiful to look at as it was to consume. The lamb was beyond fork tender and the amalgam of the spices, vegetables and meat all covered in delicate layers of phyllo was a sight to behold (and enjoy). We had been in Crete almost three weeks and have eaten at many tavernas but this meal was, to date, the finest in several ways. The preparation, presentation and flavor of each of these selections far exceeded what we had, until last night, experienced in this part of Crete. All the food we've enjoyed so far has been classic and very good but our meal at La Casita were the best of the best of each of these traditional classics. If you have a sophisticated palate, enjoy superb service, lovely abiance and hospitality then this is where you should head for an unforgettable experience, not just a meal. Steven is a perfect host, congenial and charismatic, who will guide you to select the perfect meal. We enjoyed our talks and he clearly enjoyed seeing how we relished each and every dish. Manuel came back to the table to see how we enjoyed our meal and we conversed (in German, no less) about our dining experience at some length. What a sweet man he is! I would very highly recommend Bella Casita Taverna to those who enjoy truly exceptional food in a highly sophisticated setting with amazing service. This is definitely one taverna not to miss while you are in the region!More

We found this place in TripAdvisor and we were not disappointed at all. They make all the ingredients here, everything tastes special. We couldn’t help coming 2 days in a row to try everything. Definitely a MUST try.
Excellent food, and friendly service. Highly recommended. Amazing salads. Made our wedding anniversary very special. Will definitely be back, and take the family.
The absolute best restaurant in the Rethymnon area (Platanias). Very good and friendly service and really good food for a reasonable price. Delicious dishes with fresh products. Not that touristy everyday food. Quiet location not on the main street. Would reserve in advance.
Some 100 meters from the main road with all the ordinary restaurants is Bella Casita. Really good food and service. Mostly locally produced (at least they say), sort of 1.5 the price compared to most of the restaurants, but at least three times the quality....Enjoy.More
We came last year and found this outstanding restaurant. We returned tonight for a special birthday meal and didn’t think last year’s visit could be topped but how wrong we were. The food was beyond incredible, the staff and service so attentive, passionate and knowledgeable...and simply couldn’t be more willing to please. Literally the very best meal I have ever eaten. Will definitely be returning for sure!More

If you want top quality gourmet dinner , this is the place to come to Of the Streets in a nice calm atmusphere. Try the leg og lam in ovn. We were in heaven. We Will be back
We arrived at about 8.30 pm . We ask for drinks and food. Only 1 of us asked for a starter all of us for a main plate. We received the drinks. After an hour I asked if the the starter will come with the...main dish. The starter arrived after waiting for more than one hour and a half. The main dishes came after that they were Ok but worthwhile to wait so long. A short walk there is another restaurant "Finikas taverna" We were yesterday having a very good dinner without waiting so long.More
Waitress was nice, doesnt understand the menu. Food was of decent quality but would not recommend as i needed to wait over an hour And a half for the starters!! Waitress says it is always like this. Please stay away, walk a couple more meters...to "Finikas Taverna", way better.More
