This is a realy nice RESTARANT on the river Freo .it's very clean that's important!!! This is a family ran restarant. Ask for Oscar he is the owner he speaks perfect English and has all the info on the area .he has boats so you...can book a trip on the river that like no other river in the world , it's a must his prices are very good. I spent a few weeks in Los Chiles, eating out every night and trying various eateries. The Heliconia Restaurante has been the standout performer. To the point where I ended up eating only there, as every single meal was great. The portions are very generous,...the food is fresh and my favorite is the casado de pesce. The staff are very friendly and it is a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Try it out and buon appetito!More
Beer is cheap. Food is just ok, but then again, not much else around. The hotel next door also has a restaurant. There is free wifi here.
We drove here from La Fortuna as we wanted to go down the river. It was mid September so technically out of season. The area was quiet. We saw a sign for boat tours so enquired within. Oscar the manager was very helpful and within...10 minutes we were on the boat heading for Nicaragua. The boat captain was very knowledgable and we saw many birds, and lizards. We returned to the restaurant for lunch which was very pleasant and reasonably priced. Oscar came to chat to us before our lunch arrived to how we had got on. We would recommend this place for lunch and a tour. There is on street parking if you have a hire car. This river area is very good for spotting wildlife.More
Heliconia Restaurant was not very busy, as we arrived for late lunch / early dinner. The menu had several tempting options but was all opted for the daily special. Whole fired fish, the name of which escapes me, fries and salad. Appetizer was plain trains,...very well done, with refried beans.More
We first met the Oscar Rojas family and Augusto their fishing guide in December 2015 when my hubby got a check off his bucket list of enjoying great Tarpon fishing excitement! We then decided to move to sunnier, warmer weather, and good fishing in Los...Chiles CR along the Rio Frio. Oscar and his son Gary have been the most gracious hosts helping us translate, since our Spanish is at this time is muy poco, to doctors and many others in the community as we have done our needed business. Their newest hotel Heliconia is fully equipped with Air conditioning and some English TV and comfortable clean accommodations at very reasonable prices. Gary runs the hotel as well as gives river boat tours and is fluent in English having lived his younger years in the US. Heliconia Restaurante and Hotel are both wonderful for the roughed nature lover who isn't after the 'touristy' environment just good clean fun and adventure. Not for very discriminating stuffy tastes just real folks who enjoy meeting other cultures and living the good life for a short term. Oscar speaks very good English as well and is a kind soul. Lovely family as well! Tip: on the Americana breakfast ask them to cook your bacon crisp, Costa Rican's are not used to bacon American style, but do their darnedest to please you in all things! Super fresh pineapple juice too! Great chicken cordon blue when the chicken is young and provided! Ceviche traditional as well is super fresh and refreshing!More
We crossed the new Las Tablillas border from Nicaragua into Costa Rica late in the afternoon and decided to spend the night in Los Chiles. Heliconia grills steaks and ribs on Thursday night, so we were particularly lucky, although their regular a la carte menu...looks pretty good. The steak turned out to be very tasty along with the vegetables and salad. I would definitely dine here again.More
I have moved around Central America for at least ten years and have crossed the border here many times. I have either lunch or breakfast here and have had Oscar help me many times either coming or going. He even once drove a friend and...myself to the bus stop because we didn't have breakfast and then walk to the terminal. I consider this an oasis - a place to breathe after a shuttle ride to catch the ferry out or after the boat ride coming back. I have never been disappointed in the food.More
better value than Tullipan, infitely better than the "italian" restaurant which is in fact owned by an authentic italian.
As we had recently moved to Costa Rica, we had to do our first Border Run in order to continue to drive as we had applied for our residency but are not approved yet. This is a clean restaurant, decent prices (under $20 US) for...a burger and fries, arroz con pollo, 2 beers and an iced tea. The waiter spoke a little English.More
Quite a good restaurant, situated next to Hotel Wilson Tulipan and the Immigration Center. Local and international food, try the Sea Bass (grilled local fish). Tour booking and souvenir shopping also possible.
