Must try ... Located within the famous Asakusa temple. Order ice cream and Glutinous rice with meshed Red Beans. The ice cream is full body and not sweet. The texture of glutinous rice and red beans is amazing with the red beans providing the sweetness to the plan glutinous rice - good match. Delicious !

We went there twice in two consecutive days because we liked their desserts. It is an old dessert restaurant running by family owned members. The red beans and ocha ice cream are our favourite. The icy cold mocha topping with red beams was also very good especially in the summer. The desserts were not too sweet that we were not... More

The front service is terrible. There is no picture menu and the lady at front doesn't have patient to listen to foreign visitors.

During my stay in Tokyo, one of my friends who live in Taito-ku took me to this cafe. It is specialised for traditional Japanese sweets. It’s fairly easy to find it, as it’s located near the courtyard of Sensoji Temple. After entering the left side lane of Kaminarimon Gate, keep going towards the temple till nearly the end of the... I visited here on a cold and rainy day so in theory warm red bean paste with some japanese mochi sounded great. Firstly this place is expensiveness!! Nearly 7 dollars for a small dessert. I did not particularly like the mochi - it was served burning hot so by the end some pieces were inedible. The red bean paste is... More

off a side street of Asakusa in the heart of asakusa Kannon Temple there is a small shop that caters to Japanese sweets. For those who have a sweet tooth this place is a must. You won't find any of the heavy butter, cake and cream that is known in the western world. Absolutely delicious.

It's one of "amami-dokoro" where they serve only desserts. Do try awa zenzai. It's very good.

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighborhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
