A wonderful experience in a lively authentic Ramen restaurant. Even though I was so full, I did not want to stop eating the tastiest Ramen i have ever eaten.Great service, prompt and polite.Grateful they had English on the Ticket vending machine.

I loved this ramen bar - ordering via vending machine was a novelty and super convenient - the service was friendly and quick, the beer was ice cold, the gyoza perfect and the ramen... wow. We had to go another night as I couldn't stop thinking about that ramen.

Fab pork tonkutsu round the corner from the Gracery hotel. 680 yen for a filling portion. Also had the gyozas which were also delicious and just over 300 yen I believe :) I'll be back!

I recently ate at Tonchin and it was awesome. The pork bone broth was superb and the ramen was the best I'd ever had. Highly recommend it!

Japanese noodle with mix broth of pork and fish. Free steam rice service in Lunch time. All day free for home made Kimchi

Tonchin is known for their Tokyo-style tonkotsu ramen, which is different from the classic Hakata-style tonkotsu in that it is a mix of pork broth and shoyu (plus a few other things). As a result the soup is less rich and doesn't have the creaminess of Hakata-style tonkotsu, which I enjoy. For this reason it didn't really suit my preferences,... More

Tonchin is a tonkotsu ramen joint; the best kind of ramen, if you ask me. Tonkotsu ramen is a pork-bone-broth ramen from Kyushuu (the best is in Kumamoto). There is a more famous place at Ikebukuro, Mutekiya. However, being that it has been labeled by some as the best in Tokyo, you can expect to wait around dinner time. However,... More

This ranks right up there with Mutekiya, my other favorite ramen place in Ikebukuro. I think the noodles here might be better than Mutekiya but the pork slices at Mutekiya are better. Both places deserve the highest rating. You don't need to order extra noodles unless you are very hungry as the portions are sufficiently large.

Consistently good noodles and service. This place is a must see for a tourist that wants to taste what a real ramen tastes like. Might be a bit of a challenge if the japanese language is not your forte but thats the reason why you are here. Local favorite for many and the price is reasonable. Enjoy

This place is just a few minutes from hotel Metropolitan where we recently stayed. Food was awesome and the people who run it are extremely nice and polite. The chef ran after us into the street to try and return a small tip we left. We will have to eat there again next time we're in Tokyo. Great food!!!

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighborhood Profile
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
