Tried this once in Jan 2016 and re-visited in Nov 2016. Juicy pieces of thick tonkatsu, deep fried to perfection. Free flow of shredded cabbage (most Japanese tonkatsu shop do so), order the fried oyster ( available in Jan but Nov) if it is in the menu. My friend loves it, both the pork and oyster.

Wasn't expecting much from this place (a fast-food feel to it), but the tonkatsu were great. Not greasy and perfectly crunchy! Cheap too!

Tricky to find, but well worth the effort. Located in the subnade this restaurant is not for the diet conscious but fantastic value for money and a very enjoyable meal when you have been on your feet in the rain all day. Highly recommend

Best Tonkatsu, our friends recommended to us, my husband liked it so much we visited twice, but during meal time would be a long wait. One good thing is they have chairs outside the restaurant you can sit and wait.

We had read the great reviews for Tonkatsu Wako on TripAdvisor, we wondered the mall looking for this place but couldn't find it, then we came across a restaurant that sold Tonkatsu & as it was getting late decided to try it. Turns out it was the restaurant we had been looking for! It was very busy & we had... More

Read about this restaurant on Tripadvisor so went looking. A little difficult to find as it is underground in the Subnade near the Shinjuku Railway underpass, however it was worth the effort. We ordered the two serve Tonkatsu Pair Set and were very pleased with the crispy pork, chicken and prawn main dish served with a light radish salad, savoury... More

We tried 2 outlets in the Tokyo area - Subnade in Shinjuku and Ikspiari in Maihama. The branch in Shinjuku has a much larger selection with more variety. In both outlets the Tonkatsu served is very crispy on the outside and tender & juicy on the inside. The Chawanmushi is probably the best we have ever tasted as it is... More

My friend and I went for a late dinner at 9 pm at this restaurant which was near our hotel, the Hilton Tokyo. We ordered a couple of set meals for a total of 2679 Yen. It was quite filling and very tasty. It came with the pork cutlet, rice, miso soup, pickled vegetables, potato salad, and unlimited shredded cabbage.... More

I been in a few times for their Tonkatsu. Very reasonable price at 832 Yen (about $10) for very good quality tonkatsu with shredded cabbage, rice, pickles and miso soup. Great service.

Neighborhood Profile
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
