The place is a bit hard to find, it's located in front of vintage hotel. They serve only omi beef. It's really juicy and melted in your mouth. It's recommended when you are in Shinjuku area.

I have been going to Oumi Genji for the past decade every since a friend we were traveling with spotted it almost hidden, opposite the hotel (Vintage Hotel) we were staying at. This is one of the few restaurants that I always recommend to any friends heading to Tokyo Nothing about the unassuming restaurant frontage or it's location in the... More

We were looking for a typical Sukiyaki restaurant in Shinjuku and decided to try Omi Beef. The restaurant is a little hard to find just next door to a hotel and located in the Shinjuku entertainment district, but only 10 minutes from Shinjuku station. The decor is simple and you can choose between private rooms or a table in the... More

We had a great meal at Oumigenji before seeing the Robot Show. It was recommended by our hotel concierge, and while off the beaten path it was excellent. The owner, Masato Uratani, speaks great English, having lived in California as a surfer for several years. The staff does not, but that is ok, because this is not a place for... More

Staying in Shinjuku

Neighborhood Profile
Shinjuku
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
