This place is great for soba and other smaller Japanese dishes that go well with either beer, wine or sake. My personal favorite is the salad soba which is now off the menu but if you ask they will usually make it.

This soba is hard to beat. Elegant but reasonably priced for the quality. We had the with soba with uni, scallion, and bonito flakes. As good as it gets.

I was looking for good soba on my very short trip to Tokyo, we used to go to Kanda Yabu Soba many years ago and decided to try something different this time. Matsugen had everything we wanted. They have an extensive English menu and offer many varieties of soba, including tempura and a wide range of appetizers. Their house special... More

A group of staff took me here for a business dinner while I was in Tokyo. I was a little worried it might be smoky (most restaurants in Tokyo still allow smoking) but it was well ventilated. It was a great setting for a group of our sixe (about 11 people) because it was a larger table where we could... More

Staying in Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu

Neighborhood Profile
Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.
