Delicious set menu (Yuki course) for our last night in Japan - we were not disappointed! Beautifully presented, delicious food, with the most attentive, welcoming and friendly staff. Thank you so much! Highly recommended.

This restaurant is a shame for Japan. It is not the same restaurant as it is used to be. Ordered 3 plates: otoro sushi, miso soup and sashimi. The otoro sushi were good, even if the wasabi (to be ribbed by oneself) was totally tasteless...if not with a taste of some chemicals. Then the miso soup was kind of ok, but still very watery. The sashimi were a total disaster. Felt like they came after being cut 3 days ago, got already dried by today while kept in a fridge. The service guy was always with a condescendant smile. The final top was the “coperto” fee charged for some dead concombres we were offered at the beginning of the meal. Never will return here again. What a misery and a shame for Japan and Tokyo.More

Having last been to this restaurant over 10 years ago, was keen to go back again down memory lane and re live some experiences. This time with 2 kids in tow. Kaikaya definitely did not disappoint, what a fantastic meal, atmosphere and super attentive, friendly...and lovely staff who made the whole evening an enjoyable one. We had the 6 course cho dish and would highly recommend it, from the fresh sashimi to the grilled fish and gelato everything was delicious. We prior to opening at 17:00 without a booking on a Tuesday and had no issues being seated.More

First the food. We ordered the HANA course for the 4 in our party. Our first course was the fresh fish carpaccio which was tasty.. The sushi and sashimi items were good but nothing exceptional. The otoro definitely did not melt in your mouth as...it should. The Oven-bake Abalone risotto stuffing was definitely not good. The shrimp item was tasty though. The Homemade tofu dish had quite a harsh taste / flavor. The asian soup of vermicelli was just bad. Bland and conflicting flavors. Tuna Spareribs. This was supposed to be a highlight. It had fishy odor. I had one bite. The Wagyu sukiyaki. Some members of my party liked the dish. I myself find the beef to be chewy with a beefy odor. I also had one bite. Second the poor hospitality. We finished our meal and the restaurant closed. It was raining. We waited outside under the awning for our cab to arrive. This was estimated to be 10-15 minutes. We were told that we could not shelter from the rain under the awning after the restaurant was closed and we need to leave the vicinity. To be fair, they gave us two umbrellas before they told us to get out. Food quality wise, definitely not worth the hype. The reviews posted here was definitely not what we experienced. Food rating: A mixed bag. Not exceptional. Not terrible. Service: Average until we were told to get out and wait for our cab in the rain elsewhere.More

Very good value set meal. We were required to order the set meals according to the number of persons for our reservation. This we not required during my visit pre-covid. Have clarified with them and staff mentioned that for online reservations, customers can only order...the set. If we make a call, we can order Ala carte and not required to order one set / pax. Service was not as good as before but food is still great. A place that I will revisit.More

Very unusual spot, amazing food we had never seen before. Quite an experience. There was definitely a language issue here. We had made reservations, I guess via Open Table, which meant that we weren't allowed to choose off the a la carte menu, which was...an issue for one in our party who doesn't eat fish. So she mostly sat and watched us eat. This was a multi-course menu with many unique dishes we had never seen before. In particular, the tuna ribs were amazing, as were the massive prawns, soup, etc... The food appearing incredibly fresh. The interior is quirky. The exterior signage was great. So a unique place for dinner. We were really glad we came here, although there really were issues with communication over the menu options.More

Kaikaya is one restaurant I make a point to visit everytime I am in Tokyo. My recent trip did not disappoint. Tuna dish still tastes as delicious, rice is so well cooked I nearly asked for another bowl! Crowd seems to be lesser as compared...to the past. My reservation was made online, my friend and I could only order set meal. A suggestion is to allow customers to change dish in the set meal. Alternatively allow customers making reservation online to order ala carte.More

Fantastic little restaurant with lots of ambience and great food! This was one of the highlights in Tokyo. Really loved the food, the super friendly service and great value. Absolutely go for the tasting menu. we had the 6 course menu and then had more...as the food was lovely. The beef was fantastic and the tempura, I also loved the sashimi. I would love to come back here for dinner. Wonderful place!! But remember to book!More

We visited Kaikaya as our last dinner in Japan. OMG, the food was just to die for. We ordered the Tuna spear rib style - it was quite honestly the best Tuna dish I've had in my life. It was then followed by crab meat...gratin, whole grouper fish, sirloin teppanyaki and mushroom teppanyaki, every single dish was so flavoursome and delicious. We probably ordered more than we could eat, but we ate so much because it was a shame to waste anything. The homemade sakura ice cream and the plum sorbet with plum wine jelly was so amazing and a delightful way to finish our meal. We had our 4 year old with us, which is not the easiest to please when it comes to food and even he was absolutely polishing everything off his plate. Wr found the service personal and attentative. We enjoyed having a few conversations with the wait staff. If you want to try unpretentious Japanese fusion with a casual izakaya vibe, you can't go wrong with Kaikaya. Making a reservation was slightly complicated, as there are actually two restaurants attached to each other (one for more casual a le cart dining, one for more formal set menu style). Just beware that if you book through open table, the reservation is for the more formal set menu restaurant. If you want to dine a le cart, either do walk in or you will need to make a book by phone. Otherwise, a perfect meal to end our trip!More

Haven’t been to here for some time, time to visit again! 3 courses at ¥3800, ¥4800 and ¥5800 per head available. This time we picked the ¥4800 as my friends can’t have some of the dishes for the ¥5800 due to allergy. Sashimi.. beef... fish......seafood = all included in this set! Cool ... staff there also speak English as well so you won’t have some issues for communication! YuMMM ..... like it there .... lovely sashimi platter and also I like the homemade tofu! Dishes are all lovely 😋😋😋 Is more like Izakaya there so if you prefer a quiet place for dinner, it may not be a good option as it’s a bit noisy esp on Fri / Sat nite 🥂🍶🥂🍶More

A must visit restaurant. The food is amazing. We went as a large group which we booked before. The atmosphere was great, the service was quick. But the food just stole the show...From all the places I ate at during my visit, including Michelin Star...restaurants, the food here really stood out!More

I've been twice, and it doesn't disappoint. High-end sushi meals aside, this is the best seafood you'll get in Tokyo, and a really fun atmosphere to boot. Definitely get one of the excellent set menus and let the feast begin!

The restaurant is small, so you do need to book. The atmosphere is cool: noisy and fun. We ate great food, ordering a menu made of ten different plates. The plate of sushi was delicious, and so was the wagyu. I loved also the dessert:...a tasteful cherry ice cream.More

Who cares...? This is Japan not Texas. In Tokio, and more specificly in a place called kaikaia by the sea the right question is where comes the tuna from?.
