Although The Napier has the most beautiful setting, the garden is just so gorgeous, our lunch dining experience was just awful today. Having booked a table for 1pm we did not expect to wait for the actual table over an hour, sitting at the lawn area, waiting for service. Although drinks arrived pretty swiftly, only about 15-20 mins, we only... More

I have been visiting this restaurant for around thirty years having first happened upon it when walking in the countryside a few miles from my home. It is a jewel. In summer, on the right day, it is sublime. Yesterday was one such day. My friend and I ate in the garden, or rather on the terasse, where a vine... More

Someone described this as a gastropub, it isn't. It's a proper fine dining restaurant where the food is its raison d'etre. And what fine food it is. Everything you would expect from a Michelin starred establishment. Not cheap, but worth paying if you want to experience haute cuisine at its best. In my opinion the food is better than at... More

As our kids were at my mums for a few days, we decided to take advantage of the Charles Napier's two courses for £19 offer. Although the restaurant was not busy, we were stuck in a corner where the stacking the cushion from outside as it started to rain. We seemed to wait an age to be served even though... More

Was taken here for my birthday, though we have been to this restaurant before. Superb lunch in a very relaxed country setting. Top class service and lots of v good choices on the a-la-carte menu. Excellent wine list and lunch finished with a glass of old Calvados. Perfect

Well, I shall start with why i chose to return with sixteen new guests. Four years ago I took my other half to the Sir Charles Napier for our first date, the Food was simply the best we found, the atmosphere was perfect and staff polite and fantastic. Four years on and i decided to arrange a surprise Sunday lunch... More

After a 16km walk accross the countryside, we found this restaurant simply on Google. Perfectly maintained and peaceful garden, nice walk among grass, trees and flowers. Drinks outside then dinner in the marquee. Staff not obsequious but polite and friendly. Interestingly i guessed they might have a Michelin star (we did not know until the dessert) just by tasting the... More

This is my second visit and I just can't fault it. Just the sort of food I love, friendly professional service without being 'in your face' (I hate being interrupted in restaurants to be asked whether I am enjoying my meal), pleasant surroundings inside and out. Gluten free was no problem at all and I was told that they could... More

The food flavour was good but the veal I had was surprisingly chewy and difficult to cut with my sharp steak knife. The restaurant itself is a bit tired, the staff amateurish and the toilette quite dirty and smelly. I don't think I'll rush back.

Champagne on the lawn in the sunshine set the scene and then we embarked on the seven course tasting menu.. We could have eaten outside if just a little bit warmer - that would have made it extra special. It was lunch time but a special occasion with good friends and we did have the rest of the day. There... More
