An enjoyable gastro pub, definitely not a pub and actually a restaurant. Food was good and a great wine collection but as the meal wound on the service deteriorated. Service, wine and water were regularly refreshed at the start of the meal but as things went on it became necessary to hunt down our bottle of wine and fill the... More

Every now and then, over the last week or so, I have thought wistfully about this establishment. I want to return. The atmosphere is warm, friendly, un-fussy, the wine list exciting, the local beer cool and refreshing, the food delicious. Clearly everything has been thought about with a keen eye for seasonality (sorry, horrible word) and the cooking displays a... More

We then reconfirmed the booking the week prior as we had booked long in advance. We also Once again asked if we should preorder as we had... More

This is such a lovely English pub with real fires and cosy atmosphere. The bar/arrival drinks areas are very welcoming and the bar staff were very friendly and helpful. My nut allergy was noted by Julie who simply said they can work around it so choose what I would like on the menu. What a lovely attitude. We used to... More

... you're too busy scoffing the food to take any pictures. I almost titled this 'best roast EVER' instead. It truly is, MY best ever Sunday lunch. I took my husband here for his birthday and it was lovely to be able to sit in front of the fire with a glass of red and browse the menu before being... More

Firstly the tasting menu is good value and excellent quality. Where this restaurant could improve is in the front of house staff. You don't get that Michelin star special feel from the service. Things like the welcome into the restaurant, the way the plates are put down clumsily, to the staffs knowledge of what's being served, we were just left... More

We have visited before for lunch and dinner(pricier option) and food has always been excellent, but this time we tried Fungi Foray experience. I could really recommend it for families as well as for individuals: coffee followed by a beautiful walk in the woods in a company of an expert, learning fascinating facts about mushrooms, picking strange variety and having... I'd lived in the area for around ten years, often driving past the sign for the Sir Charles Napier and being curious, but it wasn't until I'd moved away that I decided to venture down the secluded road and actually visit this eatery when on a chance visit to my old homestead. If only I'd know how stunning the food... More

My parter and I have looked forward to going here for ages. We tried the lunch menu to see what it was like and the two courses we ate were brilliant. But it was let down by poor service, which is a surprise in a place with such good food. The waitress did not say anything at all no interaction... More

This is a special place, it's always a treat to go there. No matter the weather; in the summer the garden is beautiful and in the winter the roaring fire is wonderful
