The service is extremely customer-oriented, professional and friendly. Each dish and the matching wines are explained in detail, which makes the experience extra special. The food was delicious, with top quality ingredients – the sashimi and scallops were exquisite. We chose the shared dining menu, and each course surprised us with delicious flavors. The evening ended perfectly with a sublime crème brûlée.
Thank you very much for this delicious culinary moment together with our friends.

A special night out with family members, the six of us, at a round table. We chose the '4-Gangen Shared Dinner'. We loved it!!! Fresh & tasty. We had great wines with it: Pouilly Fume and Pouilly Fuse vis. We ended our meal with a Scroppino! How delicious!!!!

This was the first time we had been here with friends who lived local. The service was OK When the food arrived we were disappointed. We felt the food could have been better for the price we paid. We were astonished to be charges 6 euros for tap water as in England it is free. There was also and overcharge of which our Dutch friends discovered. It goes to say we will not visit again.

We were here with 2 English guests who have been in the restaurant business for 45 years and have started 4 restaurants in England with great success. So our guests had a fair amount of experience and are also members of various assessment-sites for food.
Zen tries to position itself in the higher regions of Asian cuisine, so one has high expectations.
There was almost no choice for high yeasting, specialty crafts beers. In fact, there was no beer list on their website or in the restaurant at all (they did have a wine list). Taking into account current developments and popularity around crafts beers, this is a missed opportunity for this restaurant. In the end, I chose something that had a small resemblance with a beer (at least not a worthless pilsner): a white beer. My partner went for a port and our English guests asked for a glass of water (plain water). To try as many appetizers as possible, we asked the chef to choose appetizers himself. This turned out to be 4 dishes, including steamed pies and Dim Sum. All 4 dishes were tasty and at good temperature. As main course we chose for Peking duck, Three in Harmony, Tempura Ebi Mix and Chicken Dish. However, we were surprised that the (baked) rice or mie had to be ordered (and paid) separately. It took quite a while before the main course came. Unfortunately, the Tempura dish, unlike the other 3 dishes, appeared to be on a cold plate. The Tempura itself was also lukewarm. Afterwards, the Tempura dish did not turn out to be the right one. We got the ZEN Tempura rock shrimps instead of the Tempura ebi mix (we had not noticed this mistake at that moment). The Three in harmony (harmonic combination of chicken, beef and prawns, cured with lightly spicy Szechuan sauce) turned out to be little harmonic. In a random wok restaurant, chicken, beef and prawns can also be cooked in a Szechuan sauce, while the price is much less than 23 euro (including rice). The Peking duck as well as the chicken dish was OK, but not very refined. The bill was painful. Instead of requested 2 glasses of water, our English guests got a bottle of water, which turned out to be 6 euros, yes indeed: unbelievable!)
With the 4 drinks, the 4 small entrees, the 4 main courses and baked rice, the total bill was a 140 euros, which is clearly not in the expectation of a proper price / quality ratio. Unfortunately for us and our English guests not a reason to choose this restaurant again.

Just weeks ago we returned from a three week trip in Japan, visiting places like Tokyo, Kyoto, Sendai, Sakata, etc. but spent even more time countryside.
We were not hard to convince that Japan is special, so are its people and we already knew that the Japanese kitchen produces the most amazing delicacies.
So, when back in Europe, the Netherlands this time, we are always on the lookout for good Japan-style restaurants.
The Zen restaurant in Bennebroek profited from the reputation of its predecessor (french kitchen) and we easily assumed that everything would be a-okay.
We ordered sushi and sashimi for the two of us. We pleased the manager by rejecting the normal utensils like knife, fork and spoon and insisted on using chopsticks.
We favour chopsticks for numbers of reasons, actually it might be better for all of us to allways use them, regardless of the kitchen, french, italian or what have you.
Well....the Zen sushi/sashimi plate was great, no disappointment there.
However, the atmosphere in the restaurant was decidedly un-Japanese, the room was way too big, way too noisy, with modern beat-music as background noise.
The prices were very reasonable, a good winelist (although the wines were expensive). However, we feel that upping the prices a bit and decreasing the number of guests that are crammed into the available space would significantly improve the current offering.
We will definitely visit Zen again but will insist to be seated in the summergarden which is much quiter allowing a normal conversation with the other person(s) at the table.

I would never expect an Asian style restaurant on this level in a small town like Bennebroek. we were with quit a big group and choose to have many different dishes. The range varied from traditional Chinese (Peking Duck) to modern Japanese (sushi with a'twist').
Some dishes were better then others hence only 4*. The sweat and sour chicken was not as what I hoped for, the sourness and ginger taste was missing a little and it was more vegetable then chicken. Also the Dim Sum was to basic and I don't think it was home made. But I will definitely come back.
Great service !

The restaurant was highly recommended to me as being first class Asian food. I disagree - living in Australia and being used to a large selection of good Asian restaurants my expectations are perhaps too high for this part of the world.
The food seemed to be cooked to appease the taste of the Dutch, covered in glutinous sauce with a lack of Asian spices.
Service was average and the cost of the meal for what was served was extremely high.
Not on my list to come back to.

It is not cheap, but the food is really good. Have been there many times and the quality is consistent. I recommend ordering many small dishes to share. Our kids also love it and never seem to have enough.

Food quality very poor. Soggy spring rolls, gluggy dum-sum, beef dish prepared with deep-fried beef off-cuts. Not really restaurant quality. Servers also inattentive and unqualified. Terrible, disappointing experience all round.
