We were recommended to try The Stag Inn by a local B&B so I booked a table for Saturday dinner. The lady who recommended the place said the portions are enormous "because they feed the farmers" so after a hard day's work, a shower and change of clothes we made our way along the main road to find the pub... We had walked from Carlisle along the Hadrian's Wall Path planning to get a bite to eat for lunch at The Stag Inn. Unfortunately when we arrived, we found the restaurant closed with no other options for lunch. Fortunately we had a candy bar in our backpacks otherwise we would've gotten very hungry on our way to Newtown because there... More

Started well with a good starter of camembert and wine not too bad apart from having to open bottle myself but you could call that rustic. After noticing the damaged wall and wondering if the waiting staff had washed the main course came. Must say I've never had flat mash, swede or carrots in the past which only says either... More

My friend recommended this place for a meal but warned we might not get in without booking and now we know why! Luckily it was hot and everyone had gone to the beach! The food was delicious and the waitress was extremely nice, the place was friendly and the prices were excellent! We will definitely eat here again!

Just enjoyed a Sunday roast while working in the area yesterday. Many of the local pubs were not serving food at 3:30 but they where so tried it out. Warm welcome on arrival a cozy, warm pub with lots of character. We had lamb which was really tasty. A good bar with local ales and a friendly atmosphere given by... More

Thankfully we only wanted a cup of tea. Only one type of tea available and we could only have it in take away cups (though we were welcome to stay and drink it on the premises). One of our party got to the bottom of her cup and found something horrible (perhaps a dead slug) at the bottom. Yuk!! The... More

I was running late after a lengthy cycle ride from Newcastle in an attempt to meet some family at the Stag for lunch. The Landlord very kindly held the kitchen open so I could eat when I got there.
