Not only some of the best sushi I've ever had (including all around the San Francisco Bay Area), but also some of the most unique sushi and Japanese-inspired dishes (sweet miso glaze on fish and Japanese curry shrimp)!! The owner was hilarious and tons of fun and had some incredible food recommendations and ideas for us. The whole experience was... More

First things to note: you need a reservation and don't bring kids. We did not have a reservation and The owner was quite firm that in the future you needed to have one. After some time we figured this is because he buys the food based on how many people for the evening. As for the kids, he just doesn't... More

My fiance and I had dinner here our last night in Hanga Roa. We drove an ATV a few minutes down the road from our hotel. The atmosphere and ambiance are perfect. It's relaxed and unique with a Japanese touch. It reminded us of places we visited in Ebisu in Tokyo. Very well done. The chef was super friendly and... More

We had quite a poor experience here. The chef is a nice person and very welcoming. He is however more an entertainer than a host. Instead of giving us the menu he give us a sort of multiple choice set of options we could pick from. "Do you like beef or fish?". We ended up getting beef and fish in... More

Rapa Nui is a fantastic island filled with spectacular cultural and archaeological features. It is not, however, known specifically for its food. The food you will find in all the local restaurants (perhaps, I suppose, at the 5-star and wildly expensive Explora Hotel) is incredibly similar: fish, sweet potatoes, ceviche, beef, etc. The standard restaurant meal isn't necessarily bad but... We ate dinner at Kotaro twice during our five-day stay on Easter Island. Our meals were absolutely perfect and some of the best Japanese food we have ever had. Listen to the chef and allow him to create a meal for you based on your preferences - we chose the ginger pork dish and the sushi/sashimi selection on our first... More

We didn’t have high expectations for the food on Easter Island and actually cooked for ourselves most evenings during our stay. However, we made an exception for a meal at Kotaro on the advice of both our hosts and TripAdvisor. We definitely weren’t disappointed. The restaurant is quite small, located a bit out of the way on the road near... More

Less than a 15 minute walk from downtown, this intimate restaurant features an excellent menu. The beef teriyaki was delectable and the sushi was generous. The miso soup was the best we have eaten. At least two of the tables are set up so you remove your shoes and sit on the floor. With a bottle of wine and a... More

We loved our diner at Kotaro. The restaurant is really nice decorated in Japanese style and the food delicious. It felt a little bit like we where in Japan. The owner(s) and the people working in the restaurant are all really nice. Make sure to get your reservation (we didn't but were lucky enough to get a spot).

Dinner at Kotaro was a highlight of our visit to Easter Island. The restaurant is beautifully designed in Japanese style both inside and out. Despite the reports of eccentric rules or rudeness, we were warmly welcomed and graciously served. Everything -- food, wine, beer and service -- was flawless and excellent. Highly recommended.

OPENING TIME Dinner time 18:00 - 22:00 Sunday Dinner time 18:00 - 22:00 only with reservation Thursday DAY OFF. ++We don't serve any desserts ++We only serve wine, beer and soft drinks, because we think is the best choice with your meal ++and by the design of the restaurant, by the other clients, by the type of food and by their parents, we prefer not to accept children.
