Deserves 5 star rating

Really deserves all of its 5 stars. There is some stuff in here about having a reservation, but we could never contact them by having our hotel call. We just walked in and found a place no problem. The place is right where the map says it is, which is unusual for Hanga Roa. The food was amazing... read more

Dining at Kotaro was something we had been looking forward to for months. We made reservations well in advance and decided to leave it to our last night on Easter Island as a special treat. This was a mistake - I wish we would have eaten here on our first night so that we could have come back!! Everything about... More

Book your table in advance for this place as the chef prepares for a long time for each single visit. It is cheap, yummy Japanese food and levels beyond the standard food of Rapa Nui. The place is beautiful at night.

We went there twice during our 5 days stay in Rapa Nui and wished we went more. The chef, although Chilean, is a Japanese perfectionist at heart. There are excellent set menus of ceviches, miso and mains, both fish and beef were great. You can also rely on chef's choice of wine. The personal approach is exceptional, the chef comes... More

We went there for dinner and had the best meal during our stay on the island. The owner makes this place a special place no doubt, but not only with his personality, also with his cooking :-) It has a good and broad menu, but honestly - just let the chef recommend you something and you will be in for... after being stuck at the airport for sometime, and not being able to eat real food for a few days, I decided to treat myself at Kotaro on my first night on the island even though it was a lot more than I wanted to spend on a meal. I'm glad that I did though! I ordered what the owner... More

I had a dinner with my wife. The location was closed to the airport and 8-minute walk away from the city center. The menu is written by English and Japanese. We had sashimi and Kara-age (fried chicken) and they were tasty. I saw the ramen (noodle) was served to the other guest, and the size of the ramen was the... More

I was awed by building itself, and the tables that appear as though you are sitting in Japanese lanterns. The food was pretty good, but like everything else on the island it came w/ a hefty price tag. The bowl of ramen, while delicious, was $30 USD. It was a big bowl, but it wasn't life changing. I would recommend... More

Reservations are required. We couldn't get in the first night but were able to get in the second (whew!). The restaurant is close to the airport. It was less of a dinner and more of a wonderful dining experience. The husband is the chef and his wife runs the place :). He came to our table and asked if there... More

This has become our favorite restaurant on the planet. Unfortunately for us it is on Easter Island, a destination hard to frequent. However the location certainly plays into the reason why it's our favorite. It's isolation adds to its exclusivity. The restaurant is owned and operated by Francesco - a unique man dedicated to his craft of both carpentry AND... More
