Great experience

We chose this place for an early dinner on our way back from Elafonisi. It seemed to be a typical, slightly touristy restaurant. But then one of the staff members - Angelo- saved my live by killing a huge spider for me 😂 Everyone was really friendly and talkative and the recommended food (lamb and fish and tzatziki) was tasty. The place is very nice beside a little stream. Also we liked the chestnut liqueur 😉

Great Cretean Cuisine

We, a family of four stayed 3 nights in Elos and were hosted by the team of KASTANOFOLIA twice - once for lunch and again for dinner. The food was fresh, really tasteful and colorful. I loved the Mousaka, the lamb chops, as well as the Creatian salad. On top of that, we enjoyed the self made chestnut liquor... The staff was super friendly, had always an eye for our kids and gave us some nice info about the area. We highly recommend this Taverna. Thumbs up! Sebastian + family

Very good food

The restaurant is in very small village and the best thing is the chesnuts liquor. That liquor is amazing. The service is nice but if have the misfortune to arrive when the tourist busses are there the place gets very crowded very quickly. The food is very good, they have some dishes made fresh and they can serve those very quickly.

Charming scenery. Terrible food and service

Very poor food. I had the feeling that everything but the fish was frozen. They could not make a dish with zucchini, potatoes and aubergine even tho they could serve a very bland moussaka. The small pies with spinach and cheese tasted like dishwater and the watermelon was grainy. Don’t be fooled by the charming exterior, the food truly ain’t worth the money they are printed on. The service was slow and all the sodas were off brands even though they charged you for name brands.

We thank you for taking the time to comment on trip advisory.You might have a different concept of what traditional Greek cuisine is all about.We have been serving Greek traditional cuisine with fresh produce since 1969 .Its upsetting that you are using this false critic even for the soft drinks that come from a name brand company Thank you

Tragedy! One big chaos and mass production. We visited this restaurant during a trip to Elafonisi with TUI. We ordered greek and cretan salads and orange juice. The waiter quickly brought one of the salads as if they had been prepared earlier, and after numerous reminders, we waited a out thirty minutes for the second and the drink, while the others around were served a long time ago. Similar confusion occurred when paying the bill, they add the service / tip themselves. Contrary to the assurances of the guide, I doubt that it was a typical Cretan restaurant, but for sure one where only profit and plucking customers count.

Only the salad was eatable everything else was terrible not even basic level cooking. They even tried to sell us desert (overpriced 2pieces of lemon pie 10euro) which ofc was nothing special. Don't waste your time and money!

I would never go back! The service is not at all interested in the client, there was no people, but it was need to wait. Apparently, this kind of food has never been found anywhere, they made it almost yesterday and tried to reheat it, the food was withered and hard, the cheese was not melted, and there was some kind of lump. I asked for a salad without cheese because they even offered it themselves, unfortunately I got it with cheese. I literally do not recommend :(

Amazing food and service!

This Cretan traditional restaurant is a great place to eat and drink with your friends. All the food was extraordinary, even the lemon pie was great. You can buy from here chestnuts liqueur is very fresh and the give you at the end of the dinner to have a good digestion. You really should try this restaurant.

Delicious and friendly:)

Really wonderful! As soon as we said we were vegetarian the very kind man showed us exactly which dishes would be suitable for us - and the two we chose were delicious!! We were also treated to a drop of chestnut liquor (made in house I think) which was a tasty surprise! Would go back if ever we found ourselves in Elos again - thank you lovely staff!! :)

Delicious and beautiful restaurant

Absolutely loved this restaurant! The staff were all so friendly with prompt service. Such a beautiful location, the restaurant wraps around and sits beside a little stream. We ordered a cretan salad and lamb. Special thanks to Angelo, he was so friendly and happy. We were peering into the BBQ room because of the delicious smell and he opened the doors to talk to us. Thanks for being so welcoming!

Beautiful Taverna with very nice, friendly and generous staff. Food and drink was delicious, great presentation and they even gave me some chestnut liqueur to drink free of charge. I liked it so much that I bought a bottle they were selling.

Amazing food and super friendly staff

We‘ve had a great evening with way too much but very delicious food (great vegetarian options) and nice conversations with the extremely friendly staff. Thank you (especially Angelo) for the nice evening. Definitely coming again :)

Superb Crete Taverna experience - welcoming, delicious, clean

An excellent restaurant with lovely staff and an very child friendly atmosphere! We went there several times as we felt like friends and enjoyed the authentic food. They even made off the menu alterations for us ... I really can recommend this taverna. One feels not just as one off many customers but special - Crete hospitality at its best. Also Very clean! Very yummy local chestnut liquor and fruit for dessert ...

Pricey and you can be disapointed

Beef stifado was ok. Although a lot of patatoe and not that much meat. On the other side goat ‘tsigariasto’ was a disaster. Almost no meat, but a lot of bones and fat. You can see on the pictures. After complaint waiter brought lemon cake in return. Prices are higher then we experienced in other restaurants arround the Crete in the last 10 days. And unfortunately not better, but the opposite. Waiters are a little bit pushy, too! We had very little time to check the menu before waiter wanted to pick up the order. Actually, staying for 10 days on Crete we were not that dissatisfiet with a meal yet. We got, however, 10% discount as an apartment host sent us to this restaurant.

Authentic Cretan - Great Food - Great Service.

A welcoming, family run authentic Cretan restaurant. We arrived late in the evening so we sat by the fireplace. The food is local cuisine and I recommend you ask the host to recommend their dish of the day. Food comes quick and the service is excellent. Location wise, this restaurant is in a village, off the main road. Located near a natural spring, you hear the water running over the rocky bed. One last thing: Try the chestnut liquor. You will be surprised.
