The Wheatsheaf belongs to Dan Garner, former head chef and part-owner -- now sole owner -- of the Farndon Boathouse. The Boathouse has long been a favourite for me, so visiting the Wheatsheaf was largely out of curiosity: would it match the standards of the Boathouse? Short answer: absolutely Yes, in terms of food, service and atmosphere. In terms of... More

Found out that this is our new local - having moved house in the summer. Great reception, and very good food. Excellent value for money and will certainly be back!

We went on a Saturday night for dinner. The choice of drinks was good, the staff were friendly and helpful and the menu was a bit limited and more on the pub food end but had some more interesting additional food items. Service was prompt and the food was plentiful, hot and very tasty.

I visited with family on the recommendation that this pub was worth a visit for Sunday lunch. We called at the last minute and managed to grab a table in the bar area. Parking was quite tight but I'm not going to criticise a place for its parking! The greeting was extremely warm and welcoming and we were shown to... More

Birthday treat for me and the family. Had not been since it changed hands and had a mixed experience. Bottom line, the food was good but the service lacked warmth from the moment we got there. The manager seemed to be going through the motions and this seemed to filter down to the staff; one waitress was friendly but she... More

First time there: nice atmosphere, spotless loo, good beer (Timothy Taylor). At first sight the menu is very attractive, but looking in more depth there is very little if you don't want something hefty with chips..no main course salads or light fish dish, and very limited vegetables. Service was pleasant if a bit ditsy. Would return if really hungry after... More

Hottest day of the year. We were in Claypole on biz and we're someone recommended going the extra mile and a half to see the famous leaning tower of St. James' church. We did..It leans spectacularly and we found this fine pub across the road. We only had cold drinks and a packet of crisps but my hubby loved his... More

Good on this visit but not excellent. The previous manager has left and in my view the excellence of service and food quality have both gone off a bit. Still good meals but no the excellent meals we have had in the past. Pie of the day was not burnt, but by the same token if you had cooked it... More
