A place to order food without bread and rice is tricky in Japan. We decided to try Indira a couple years ago and have been regulars since. While we don't eat the bread or rice, the tandoori offerings are so delicious as are their curries....We always enjoy our low carb options with enthusiasm. People who we have brought there who have ordered Nan and lunch sets have also said, Yum!More

Our friends have been telling us about Indira since 2016 and we've driven by many times on the way to White Beach. So finally in January my wife, two kids and I stopped in for lunch on my day off. First of all the owner...was very welcoming. He instructed us that it was okay to park in the underground garage where we had left our car then proceeded to talk about the menu. We love Indian food and have been to many of the Indian Restaurants on the island - some we love and some we have never been back. Indira is now our official favorite. The owner invited my son back to watch the tandoori chicken grill in the clay oven. And the mix of curries for the lunch specials that we ordered were flavorful and went well with the vegetable and the huge garlic naan. My wife drove so I was able to sample the Indian beers which they had three on their menu plus a couple of other American and Japanese brands. Both kids emptied their large portioned plates as did my wife and I. The combination of great food, owner hospitality, non-crowded location in Okinawa City and proximity to our house in Chibana has now made Indira our go-to Indian restaurant. They were closed for most of February through half of March as they traveled back to India, but just re-opened last week. Also, you can order a whole tandoori chicken to go if you want a great to go meal at home. We can't wait to go back!More

Food was reasonably prices with huge portions. Quality is good, mutton curry tastes great, garlic naan is big and made freshly. Butter chicken tastes fine and samosa is crispy and yummy. Milk tea has a light taste of masala.

Indira is in! The food was indescribably delicious. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was one of cheerful relaxation as we dined gazing on traditional Indian art but listening to the joyful sounds of Reggae; untraditional for an Indian restaurant, but uniquely Indira....But Indira is not a traditional Indian restaurant as it also sampled from the Okinawan cuisine as it proudly boasts a flavorful Goya curry. Also unique was the chocolate naan served with the children's set. The restaurant was clean, the staff was helpful and there is plenty of parking. It is now my new favorite Indian restaurant in Okinawa! Indulge yourself and eat Indian at Indira!More

Ate here last weekend for maybe the 5th time, and it was better than ever, which is saying a LOT, as their food is always great. I had the chicken curry set meal, which had a nice cabbage salad, perfect rice, a (substituted) cheese naan...that was crispy/crunch on the bottom and soft on the top with gooey cheese in the middle, and the most amazing chicken curry that had bits of fragrant ginger floating on top. It also had a piece of tandoori chicken that was perfectly and thickly coated with spices and just melted in my mouth. We added a masala dosa as a starter - it is a fermented batter crepe (also crispy on the edges) filled with some bit of heaven and accompanied by a coconut sauce and two other smoky sauces. I typically get the spinach cheese curry, which has fresh paneer (type of farmers cheese) floating in it. My latest plan is to turn the majority of my cooking over to Indira and just get takeout for 3 or 4 days a week! Seriously, if you like Indian food, this is the place. I have had two other "favorite" Indian places in Oki, but Indira has now knocked them off my list, and knocked the non-Indian places off the favorites list, too!More

We are very pleased to have found Indira just after they opened. We visited on friends' recommendations and have since this find with other friends and family. Though the original owner is out of the picture, the food and service have not diminished one bit....Their set lunches continue to be a big draw for us. Their offerings are well prepared, very tasty, and reasonably priced. We've only tried them for dinner once or twice, but have been pleased. We highly recommend the mutton rogan josh and the butter chicken for entrees. Be sure to try their naan bread! They have a tandoor (traditional Indian oven) on-site, and the breads are out of this world! Both their plan and garlic naan are the best I've ever had (and we spent 4 years enjoying lots of Indian cuisine in the UK)! The service is excellent. This is a small place, so the chefs often come out of the kitchen to help serve customers. They are always welcoming and enjoy interacting with our infant daughter. My only gripe is that the portion of meat in an entree is rather small for the money. It's well prepared and delicious... but... a bit sparse on the plate.More

I've heard of how great Indira was by word of mouth but it is hard to believe until you go there. Went there yesterday and it lives up to expectations. For 1200 yen I had the Indira set which came with three different types of...curry, two large pieces of naan and two pieces of tandoori chicken (I'm pretty sure I didn't spell that right). Also the set includes your choice of drink as well as dessert.More

My husband and I both love Indian food and have eaten at almost every Indian food restaurant on Okinawa and Indira is by far the best one. They have the most variety of meat and vegetable curries. They also have an entire page of desserts....Every bite is so flavorful. So excited and happy to have found this place. This is the place you want to try if you are a true Indian food connesseaur.More
