When in Izumo, you must try soba. I did just that, I came here later in the evening and there was a waiting list, which can be a good thing, the wait wasn't long. My wife and I both ordered the cold soba set. I've...never really had this style so I was eager to try it, I like the sets since they come with extras like miso soup and rice. The soba noodles come layered in separate bowls, and you season them as you wish then pour the leftovers in the next bowl and so on. I found the flavors to be very good, I am glad I tried it. Both my wife and myself were pleased with our dinners here.More

I have heard of the famed Izumo Soba, Shimane Prefecture being one of the best in the whole of Japan. This place was recommended by TripAdvisor since it was so close to the hotel that I was staying, Green Rich Izumo Hotel. When I arrived...around 6.15pm for dinner, the table downstairs were pretty much taken and you needed to fill in your name in the waiting list but I didn't have to wait long for a seat. There is no English menu and the pictures are quite limited. You can ask for the restaurant's recommendation which is a 3 tiered soba. But I ordered the oyakodon with hot soba set which cost 1,000yen. I totally enjoyed the oyakodon. The soba was a little soft to my liking since I usually prefer my noodles to be a little firmer but I love the broth. Must come to try if you are visiting Izumo.More

I went to this restaurant because of the raving reviews on Trip Advisor. It was located in a very quiet area. The restaurant was fairly full when I got there. It was actually near closing time, so the server was not as patient with me...(first time for me to try soba). I ended up ordering the basic soba noodles, which was enough food for me, and very tasty. Good price for the amount of food. I would go back again to try out some other items on the menu.More

This place offers a great variety of dishes with soba noodles. It is located quite far away from the town center and Taisha shrine, close to Izumo JR station. We stayed at the Green Rich Hotel, so were very happy to find this place which...is not far from the hotel. They do not have an English menu, but some of the staff speak a little English. They were friendly and helpful. We had the three variants of Soba and the Tempura Soba, which were both delicious.More

We chose a restaurant away from Izumo Taisha, as we knew it would be less crowded and more peaceful to enjoy our meal. Best of all - no waiting (on a Tuesday). It was about 20 mins from the Izumo Airport and another 20 mins...to Izumo Taisha. It has free parking - but only 10 parking spaces, directly opposite the restaurant. The restaurant looks small but, is actually quite big - seating about 80 people, on two floors. We asked for the small room with a traditional garden view, it’s very quiet and decorated in a traditional Japanese way. It creates a fantastic atmosphere for a traditional Japanese lunch. The buckwheat noodles were excellent. They come in stacks of 1, 3 or 5 bowls with different toppings to try for each one. They also serve tempura and various styles of buckwheat noodles - hot & cold. There is also “oyako-don” (egg & chicken rice bowl) which was very good, served in a set with only one bowl of soba noodles. (It was 1000 yen.) However, it was more than enough for lunch, for me. Next time, we will try the same noodle shop called, “Haneya Denshokan” which apparently has a good view of a Japanese garden …More
