Lunch at Tanto on a busy day!

There was a huge crowd at this open air place but people were being accommodated quite quickly. After placing the order, the wait for the food was not long. You should go to Tanto to eat their pizzas! The pasta and the watermelon juice were just as wonderful. The bill was very reasonable considering the high quality of the ingredients , liberally used. In spite of being rushed, staff is very polite. It has a happy, cool atmosphere! Be aware though that for lunch they stop strictly at 3 pm There 's a parking lot a little away at walkable distance.

Good food, horrible service

Nice and authentic Italian pizza and Ravioli. However, the service is just pathetic. You will need tons of patience to get anything on the the table - right from a glass of water to cutlery to food. May be avoided given there are enough equally good pizzerias in the area

Good Place for a Pizza

We had ordered a Fantasy Pizza which consisted shrimps as the main topping. The pizza was good but it was slightly blant. The base was good , thin and soft. We had also ordered 2 glasses of iced tea whic was good. The location was awesome too. It was a green lush place. The only problem were flies. Food : 3/5 Hygiene : 3/5 Location : 4/5

Walk away if there is a queue

We had a great experience visiting this place during our last visit despite the long queue. This time around though we had to go through a horrible ordeal waited for 40 minutes, saw several people come through jump the queue and get a seat( with the same set of members). In the end was offered a table with a single chair which was not cleaned and full of flies. The lady who was taking the seating priority does the best to avoid us despite being patient and polite with her. In the end we decided that our most precious family time is not well spend getting frustrated and walked out. And when someone mentioned to the head waitress that they was walking out after waiting for 45 mins, we overheard her say “its alright everyone is waiting”

Undercooked pizzas, inattentive servers and stinking parking lot!

We have been to Tanto several times in the past. The place has always been crowded and hospitality less than desirable, but the food was always good. This time around, the Pizzas we ordered (‘Earth’ and ‘Vegetarian’) were obviously undercooked. The Caprese salad had chewy mozzarella and underwhelmed. Hospitality has never been Tanto’s strength. The waiters lack charm and always seem preoccupied. Getting their attention for cutlery or anything else, is a time consuming task. During our previous visits, good food made the poor hospitality tolerable, but this time the lack of attention added to our overall poor experience. The parking lot is a crying shame. Tanto clearly wishes to do nothing to clean up the place and make it even half decent. Tanto clearly believes the customer is the least important part of their business.

Famous cafe with average food…

I had my lunch at this restaurant as it seemed quite popular and had waiting queue during the afternoon. The place is like a typical cafe with semi-open seating and lots of tables. The staff however is less and it takes time for them to come to your table or get orders. There are also dogs and cats roaming around. Coming to their food the quantity is large. I tried their Mushroom Cheese pasta which was delicious and their famous wood fired pizza which for me was average. I had ordered their masala chicken pizza in which the toppings were not up to the mark for me.

Awesome pizza

Had masala chicken pizza for dinner last night after a nasty experience at surguru restaurant in Pondicherry. Nice ambience and surprisingly all waiters were woman. Wood oven baked pizza was very good and my husband and I loved it.

Great food , bad service

Earlier I had stayed in their own guest house by the beach and had ordered from their restaurant, food was great, so this time I visited the restaurant, and was disappointed. The service is so bad, the servers don’t care , felt like it was a burden for him that he was serving me. Food was great, their iced tea is delight and pepperoni is too good.

The pizza was the best in all of Pondicherry! The chef was a highly trained professional woman. I did visit here before June 2023 but that was the last date available to apply on the review. The pizza tasted fresh and I was made in a wood fire over.

Best Pizza in Pondy/Auroville

A trip to Pondy/Auroville is incomplete without visiting this place. The place never disappoints. On of the oldest restaurants which has wooden oven for pizza. Ordered pizza & pasta & loved the taste. The ingredients are organic which further elevate the taste buds. Will definitely recommend this place.

We visited Tanto for my son's Birthday. My son has a mobility issue and when I was looking for a wheelchair, the owner offered to help. He spoke to the next door Frittos owner and made a special arrangement for us. Not just that he saw to it that my son was comfortably seated. Thanks to him and his staff for making it a memorable birthday lunch for my son. No wonder it is the happening place near Auroville

Tantalizing Tanto Pizzaria !

Tanto is a must visit place if you are in Pondy - Puducherry! Tanto is in Auroville bang on the main road. Pizzas are made from the huge Oven before your eyes, which is a treat to watch! Wood-fired pizza has a great taste due to the burning wood build up inside the oven! So the Pizzas have a lovely rustic aroma that can't be achieved by other means. The place is crowed throughout the day but getting a table is has never been difficult in all these years!

Amazing Food I Italian is the most recommended Italian restaurant in the region. They are known for their pizza, pasta and other Italian food items. They have a very friendly atmosphere and a great service. They also offer online ordering which makes it easy for customers to place orders on their website or app.

Decent food, nice atmosphere

This place isn't winning awards for its food where their kitchen delivers to 'above average' levels. Tomato soup was great, my seafood pasta was good, frito misto was average, served with below average fries(which may have found the right texture with a second round of frying). Pizzas are what would have been considered good couple of decades back but with so many top notch pizzerias coming up across India, I would consider them 'not bad'. Overall there is buzz all around the place and it is a nice place for an evening out with a group in the middle of Auroville.

Nope! Didn’t work for me.

We were one of the first few visitors of the day when we entered the place at 12:10pm on a Monday afternoon. We were completely ignored for first ten minutes when we were almost contemplating about leaving. A very sweet smiling lady then attended to us. The food was average - we had a pizza and pasta. It was bland, basic and just not something I’ll recommend to anyone.
