Located on the most scenic route in the world The Grille Shack @ PitStop Lodge is situated 5 kilometers from picturesque Gordon’s Bay. Anchored by statuesque Blue Gums and nestled between dramatic cliffs we are very much off the grid, whilst still being in the heart of Cape Town Country. The Grille Shack is a 1950’s Pump Diner-inspired restaurant with a “lekker” South African twist. We welcome petrolheads, road-trippers, families, adventurers, hikers, locals, free spirits, cyclists, tourists, and well-behaved pets.

My goodness 😍 I ordered the Onion pan and what a delight 🤤 for my eyes and Mouth. The Blooming onion 🧅 is soooo beautiful 🤩 and I felt so bad taking it apart bit by bit, I just couldn't control the urge 😉 Second of all the Nachos is absolutely AMAZING 😍🤩 Cheesy, saucy, crunchy, with loads of 🥑 my goodness. The jalapeno poppers I'm leaving for tomorrow, but will be sure to say how that was. You guys never disappoint and the quality and quantity of food is amazing for the price. You will see me soon!

The incredible hostess, Sanet, along with her dedicated team, truly elevates this spot to being the best in Gordon's Bay, and possibly all of Cape Town! The menu offers a diverse selection, ensuring there’s something for every palate. You simply can't go wrong here—every visit is a treat. If you're in the area, don’t miss out. What a lovely place for breakfast!

We arrived nice and early - they had a fire going and we just felt immediately welcomed. The food was worth every penny and in fact, was in portions big enough for someone with a bigger appetite than mine. Win! What a lovely surprise to find a place that does not skimp and goes all out for that wow factor. Great coffee and on point service from all the staff. Will 100% go again!

Our family decided to take a spontaneous drive along the Gordon’s Bay coastline with our Maltese poodle. After about 1.5 hours of driving, we decided to turn around instead of continuing to Hermanus. Ironically, we ended up turning back right at the Grille Shack restaurant and thought it would be a great place to stop for a quick bite, especially since pets are welcome. The venue looked amazing, and your staff was very friendly, which we truly appreciated. Unfortunately, the food didn’t meet our expectations.

We stopped here for breakfast and oh my word…. It was amazing 👍👍. The waitress and service was fantastic and friendly. Home made bread, with real butter, skinny fries, perfectly salted, genuine mushrooms 🍄, the most delicious, generous pork sausage, bacon, eggs, man…. Just the whole shebang…. 10 out of 10🤩 The best breakfast in Gordonsbay… Funky interior, great background music, and the fire place just gives it the most amassing ambiance on a rainy morning… I will definitely be back, and I am bringing friends….😆. Well done chefs…. And owners. This place is perfect 💯

Best Restaurant in the Western Cape - not a visit - it's an experience

I have been visiting the Grille Shack since they opened. 2 plus years back, 10/12 times. The atmosphere is simply better than most of the restaurants I have visited and the food is enough to leave anyone very happy and satisfied.. The vibe is relaxed, cosy, friendly, calm and the service professional and friendly yet unobtrusive. The menu is interesting, simply delightful and ample for a hungry stomach. If you haven’t visited the Grille Shack yet, you are missing one of the best outings and culinary experiences of your life. They allow pets and have just been named Best Pet Friendly Restaurant of the year by KFM. I am leaving a happy and very very satisfied customer. Grille Shack is not just a simple meal out it is an experience!

Pitstop Pan-Abulous Where to begin... Absolutely FABULOUS.🤯👍🍻💯 Your food and service are the best and and the portion size could feed a few people. I devoured the ribs and buffalo wings...the jalapeno🌶️ popper was amazing and the corn dog was soooo scrumptious. Thank you so much for your service and that you never disappoint... Great place, great view

We go there rather often. For breakfast or lunch or both sometimes :) Their food is unrivaled in the area, as well as the large area outside which caters for kids, dogs and everyone in between. Their food is great, albeit a bit pricey but well worth it. The view of the mountain is breathtaking, and there is a wine, whisky and gin merchant on the premises that is an absolute delight

Visiting The Grille Shack is an experience as we also offer: 👍 our own Little Liquor Boutique (The Refuel Station) 👍 A gift shop (Ruby Rose) 👍 A playroom inside for kids with a childminder on weekends (& huge lawn outside) 👍 seating inside or outside with free live music occasionally 👍 Our three luxury cabins each offer accommodation for two, furnished to the highest standard 👍 We are Pet-friendly! Best Prego 🍔 in Capetown- the secret sauce blew my mind- the option for vegetarians is incredible. The vegetarian Prego burger were smothered in mushroom 🍄 and I was licking off my fingers. Could not get enough and will definitely order again. The service and scenery is fantastic and the rustic vibe is right up my alley.

It's not just a restaurant it's an experience

The Grille Shack is not just a restaurant it is an experience. An awesome one at that! It is beautiful, with beautiful scenery that you can only get in the Cape. Settled on Clarence drive on the road to Rooi Els, it invites you in with it's vibrant atmosphere, friendly staff and of course scrumptious food and craft beer. Your senses are awoken by the interesting decor and smells of coffee and awesome food the moment you walk through the door. It is worth the drive and DEFINITELY on my list of regular visits.

I can absolutely recommend The Grille Shack at Pitstop. This new gem of a restaurant seems to be surrounded by mountains and trees! Just beautiful! The décor is also distinctive and striking. Not only does The Grille Shack have lovely green grass for the kids to run on (and a playroom), it is also dog-friendly and situated on the breathtakingly beautiful Clarence Drive. The food is delicious and everyone is just so genuinely friendly you really feel welcome and relaxed the moment you arrive. We loved the time we spent at The Grille Shack and will be back for sure!

Lovely pitstop

On our way from Gordons bay to Hermanus on Clarence drive my husband and I stopped at the Grill shack (we missed the entrance and had to turn around). We were warmly welcomed at the door, had our temperature taken and had to fill in a health declaration form. We appreciated that Covid 19 protocols were followed. The restaurant boasts an intimate and inviting ambience. The crackling fireplace made us feel even more at home (I know, a fireplace in October?). The menu looked attractive, but we already had breakfast and we only had cappuccino which was delicious. Carmen, the waitress that served us was friendly and professional. We thoroughly enjoyed our cappuccino and will return to the Grille Shack if we are ever in the area again.

An excellent find

Driven past many times on the awesome Clarence Drive, by chance saw a review that made us want to visit. So breakfast - delicious pancakes with blueberries and bacon, I should say huge delicious pancakes. Good quality coffee as well. Really helpful staff and good service make this a definite place to stop for a meal. We will be back!

Fantastic food, catchy décor, friendly service - well worth dropping in when driving along Clarence Drive

What a wonderful surprise on entering the Grille Shack. The décor creates a relaxing atmosphere, and the fact that the Grille Shack is pet friendly suited us perfectly. The welcome by the staff was warm and genuine, and we were seated next to the log fire which was very welcome on this cold, wet and windy day. Craig who served us made us feel welcome and at home with his friendly approach. His service was excellent and he even took good care of our dog. Keep it up Craig we will definitely drop in again.

Disappointing and poor service !

Stopped en route home for a cool beer on a Tuesday. No issue with the quirky & fun decor and the general surrounding. The speed of the waitrons was dead slow or stop, the bench tables hadn't been wiped - it was 13.00 - and were sticking which wasn't recent. We had been told of the craft beers being good hence the stop after 10 minutes before we were attended to we ordered 2 different beers. One was brought reasonably quickly the waitron then returned several minutes later saying that the other been wasn't available. So we ordered another type same thing not available ! I cannot understand why the waitron didn't know what was or wasn't available ?! He then returned to say that the first beer was now available and brought the original beer requested, we'd started to share the one beer as the second was soooo slow arriving. We didn't want food but what we saw looked well presented and generous. General conclusion was of a lack of effort & couldn't be bothered attitude poor service like they were doing us a favour by serving us at all on a Tuesday lunch time.

Dear Alison, we thank you for some of your kind comments and the constructive criticism. We audit each and every poor review, I would like to respond as follows: Video footage shows that you were tended to within 4 minutes of choosing one of our garden tables after exploring our gardens. Your order was placed at 12h50 and that both beers were on your table (with some regrettable confusion in-between) by 13h02. We agree that 10 minutes is too long to wait - especially when one is thirsty:) We will continue to uptrain and upskill our staff. Please note that our menu clearly states that if you are unhappy with any matter big or small to chat to our GM who wants every customer to leave as a Happy Camper. Our motto is that every patron counts, and you obviously did not feel that way. It is not an excuse, but Wellington is in his first month of training... We see that you reviewed Berties on the same day as us and gave them a rockstar 4 stars. One day when we grow up we would like to be as legendary and popular as Berties!!
