We had heard some good reports about this inn and so gave it a try on "Fish and Chips" night. The fish was adequate but the batter was spongy (like the oil hadn't been hot enough when the fish was cooked!). The home made chips looked nice but weren't particularly flavoursome. My wife liked the tartar sauce but I wasn't... More

we visited many pubs for good old fashioned pub grub but for whatever reason, avoided the Angel. When we finally did visit, we realised what a gem we had right in our midst. Food was amazing, beer was the best and the hosts plus locals were brilliant. Take a tip from us and visit this old inn.

6 of us visited Abergavenny a couple of weeks ago and had lunch at The Angel. The service was excellent. The Front of House team were very attentive without being overbearing. They were very patient (my group of friends and I are sometimes very indecisive!) and kept on smiling until we left. We only had a main course each. However... More

We chose lucky and went for a drink when there was music playing. I hope this musician appears on the screen sometime if he has not already. Liked the music, liked the friendly atmosphere and a good selection of beers. On my wish list is for the planet to appreciate the locally produced speciality ciders. it's not fair to keep... More

Was looking for a proper old pub to show my US friend and remembered this one from a previous visit. Outside and inside are both authentic but charming. We were really late but the landpeople said they would make us a sandwich. The bread was amazing as was the cheese and the pickle. My US friend was freaked out by... More

Visited with a group of 58 classic car enthusiasts for lunch and it was great. In a pretty part of the village near the castle remains. Lovely food and great beer, or so the chaps told me. Friendly staff and an interesting interior. We can recommend it

Grosmont even the landlord admitted was not on the way to anywhere but Jan Morris described it as "the most beautiful village in Britain" AND it has a castle built in the 11.00's. But the pub is compact and lovely and welcoming. One ever so small oddity - it does not appear to have loos - but there is a... More

I dropped into The Angel in Grossmont for lunch, and a welcome distraction from clearing out the attic, with my wife. Neither of us had been there for some time and didn't know what to expect... what a pleasant surprise! The weather awful and during our visit a numerous walker wandered in to a warm welcome from the ha duo... More
