Friendly pub

We were staying on holiday in the area and decided to visit this pub as it was "dog friendly". The decor is nice and comfortable, and we were greeted upon arrival. The menu is limited, so if you're fussy then this may not be the place for you. We both ordered the beef pie which was delicious... read more

The Springer Spaniel is one of our favourite restaurants and we have just visited again. We thought our meal tonight was the best dining experience we have ever had! The Springer Spaniels staff look after you from start to finish with excellent service and a menu offering exciting and delicious cuisine. I went for steak with crusted portobello slow cooked... We went today for lunch, having eaten here many times before. The food was excellent and the service was very attentive without being intrusive. I had the risotto, which was delicious, followed by lemon sole, accompanied by the most scrumptious fennel and caper mash. My husband had the duck parfait, served with orange jelly and lovely piquant tiny pickled onions,... More

We had Sunday lunch here recently. It was a very unhurried affair. We booked for 2pm as the pub was busy until then. We arrived slightly early, but our table was free. However it was another 20 minutes before our order was taken and at least the same again for the starter to arrive. The mains did not arrive until... More

Evening meal for four. Starters varied - liver parfait outstanding whereas quail rather poor. Quail breast overcooked but leg lollipop almost raw. Pasta starter a bit bland but the cauliflower risotto was amazing. Mains good with brill beautiful. Ox cheek sous vide cooked I think so fat did not render down and meat a bit firm (and served in a... More

Both my Wife and I were invited as guests to the Springer Spaniel. What a brilliant place, nice atmosphere, very attentive staff and very good food. You can take your dog in also but not in to the main restaurant but can get served the restaurant food. Maisie our Jack Russel was left behind that evening.

I have driven past this place a few times and always say we should come in! Well today was that day I was with my sister in law and our children desperate for lunch we stopped by and we're greeted by a less than cheerful bar man. I asked for a table for 5 and he disappeared for what felt... More

I have visited the Springer a few times now and have always enjoyed the food, hence a visit with friends last week. Surprisingly it was incredibly quiet but it was mid week. Unfortunately the food was not to the standard that we had become accustomed to. To start with there was no steak which surprised all of us, apparently I... More

I have eaten here several times now, the first two visits were 'fine', no better than 'fine' but they were 'fine', giving us no cause to complain about anything. However my next three visits were nothing short of 'terrible' on the food front. On my most most recent visit the Pub was very quiet, in fact our party of 7... More

Had the 8 course tasting menu. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, service was great and the atmosphere (even though quieter then usual as it was a Wednesday lunchtime) was very pleasant. Really reasonably priced and will defiantly be going again. Another lovely meal by Antons team
