Lunchtime break

I took my nephew to lunch today 9/2/16 for a casual lunch. The pub was very empty but by the time we left it had a few more customers. We both had a light meal and a drink and both were excellent. I eat everything on my plate. Although it was very quite, the staff were very good and I... read more

After not visiting The Angel for a while, due to cold food, we decided to give it another go. The food was fine on this occasion but the coffee cold and the tea very bitter. On a visit back a week later , we waited 20minutes for our tea and coffee. Both cod. We ordered soup for our starter this... More

Booked for a Sat night at the last minute but managed to get a table. Very friendly welcome from excellent staff and a reasonably priced good choice of food and wine. The pub also offers a good choice of beer.

Went here last night for dinner. It's Hall & Woodhouse Pub. Some excellent ales on at the moment (First Call and Leaping Legend). The star of the menu was definitely the Beef & Tanglefoot pie - it's award winning and no wonder. Apparently made specially for Hall & Woodhouse. Served with mashed potatoes, red cabbage and carrots. A pie with... More

My wife and I visited the Angel when looking for a place to eat last night. Although the reviews were mixed, we chose to eat here and were greeted by friendly staff who looked after us well. Food was of a good quality and at a good price, especially when looking at other menus in the locality. I would recommend... More

We opted for the Angel for a quiet meal for two, with the kids safely tucked up in bed at home. The food was good - but the service? Oh dear! One hour to wait from starter to main course. Not to worry - the bottle of Pinot passed the time and we were in no rush. But as the... More

We periodically use the Angel for a drink or a meal and we went in for a quiet drink the Saturday after new year and they had reduced the amounts on tables for people just drinking to about 5 tables. The other areas were more or less empty but when we went to sit on one of these tables were... More

We now have a specific bar area which has seating for forty guests at any time so we do apologise that you weren’t able to find a seat. We have found that this layout works best when we are trying to accommodate the needs of diners and drinkers at the same time. Lots of people book tables with us to... More

Cold and over priced food. Looks good from the road but not coming back. Had mini pies mash and veg. Mash cold, veg cold, gravy cold, chicken pie devoid of any chicken at all and beef pie slightly better. Over £10 for that - rip off...
