Writing Your Property Description: Where To Start?
Photographs are undoubtedly key to grabbing travelers’ attention, but your listing’s description must also work hard to secure those valuable bookings for your property. We’ve put together some ideas on writing the best descriptions possible, so that travelers can’t resist a stay at your place.
Before you begin writing your property description…
Start by making a list of all the top selling points of your rental. What makes your place special? What gives it the wow factor? Think about what aspects of your property set it apart from the rest; ease of access, proximity to fun attractions, a swimming pool or game room, or simply a great view from the master bedroom. All of these paint a vivid picture for the guest so they can get an idea of what it would be like to spend a vacation at your home.
See what owners with similar properties have written in their descriptions. It will give you a few pointers on what to include, plus which selling points will help your place stand out from the crowd. Be careful not to copy though: listings with copied text could be removed by search engines (such as Google) and your bookings could suffer.
When you start right your property description…
Remember your audience
It’s always best to write in a relaxed and friendly way. After all, travelers are searching for a vacation getaway. Get them in the right mood by using language that will help them envision their perfect vacation. For example, if your home is well suited to families, talk about the benefits for kids – local attractions and activities, a large garden, or a game room.
One last check
Before you put your listing live, give it one last check over. Ask a friend or family member to read the description – they might provide another angle, suggest more ideas, or spot unwanted spelling errors or grammar mistakes.
Be concise
Travelers are seeking the most essential information about your vacation rental. Don’t try to cover every detail, as readers will get bored and may leave your listing page. Two or three short paragraphs about the property and its surrounding area will work well.
