Visiting Scotland for the second time in less than two years allowed me to delve a little more into the adventures available. One of the more interesting road trips that locals are taking more often is along the NC500 Coastline. I wasn’t able to complete the entire road trip of the Upper Scottish Highlands, but definitely would love to return to complete this trip in its entirety. Here is what to see on the NC500 Coastline in Scotland should you venture to do as locals do, and take this road tri

Taking a road trip in Scotland is still one of my favorite things I have done while traveling. One of the highlights on this road trip was racing from Portree on the Isle of Skye to Neist Point Lighthouse. Driving to Neist Point from Portree takes around one hour to drive. The roads to Neist Point Lighthouse felt like I was on a rural race car track, or a Scottish Mario cart. Winding frantically through the Isle of Skye countryside, racing the sunset, honking for the tiny lambs frolicking to a

Situated on the cliffs of Caithness stood the main castles of the powerful Sinclair family for over 300 yrs. This 14th-century building was built upon by the Sinclair family for nearly 200 years. Then the wicked 5th Earl George Sinclair was constantly bickering with his neighbors the Clan Gun. This eventually led to an attack that lasted as a 12-day siege attempt until they finally withdrew. The Earl was forced to flee Sinclair Grinigoe Castle because of the mounting debts he had accumulated.

South of Lima, approximately 155 miles (250km) is one of two protected areas where marine life meets desert – the Paracas Desert in Peru. It is a little-known area, growing in popularity for its plethora of activities, genuinely kind people, ancient history carved into the landscape, and a raw yet beautiful landscape.

I was so nervous to go on this bike tour, my internal dialogue went something like this, "Your over-weight, you have a bad back, what if you have to pee? They are going to leave you and charge you more for how slow you are. It is too hot and you won't enjoy it. Remember how you almost passed out the last time you got overheated?". This is what the mind does my friends, it tries to limit me in an effort to protect me from any additional pain. What my job is, is to create a mantra to be able to

The Isle of Skye is a feast of images for the eyes of those who yearn to wander green paths. Scotland is a land lush and wild, but the Isle of Skye is the hidden Emerald of the UK. This land is steeped in history, folklore, unspoiled beaches, rugged mountains ripe for conquering. Welcome to the Land of the Clans and Scottish pride and warrior spirits that will never die. So grab a 'cuppa tea' as they say here, and settle in for a grand virtual adventure through time and ancient earthly treasures

Just call me a Sea Goddess! I had just mastered my first dive successfully with a compliment from a Master Diver that was more of the quiet type, yet he congratulated me. I was indeed proud of myself, despite the concerned looks that friends gave me when I said I wanted to do diving. The kind, but doubtful way that people often look at me because of my size – with the unsaid words of ‘difficult diver’, ‘burden’ ‘too big to fit and all the other self-depreciating, anxiety driven encounters and mo

I think the visit to Petra overall was something that will stay in my heart forever. I overcame a lot of self-doubt and speculation about the dangers in Jordan. I made the journey there alone, despite going in a tour group, I’m proud that I did it alone. I fulfilled one of my dreams of seeing a wonder of the world, learned so many things about the culture, the people and myself along the way. While the culture shock was quite real, I now find my Jordanian friends get so excited to be able to rel

If you have never heard of Elgin I won’t judge you, as I hadn’t either until I went to Scotland. It is in the heart of Whiskey country, a history lovers dream, and a road tripper’s paradise – here are a few things to do in Elgin Scotland.
