Once a year Keelung City hosts the Ghost Festival with events lasting a whole month (the seventh month of the lunar calendar, aka Ghost Month). Especially attractive are the street parade and the release of water lanterns at Badouzi on the 14th day of the month.

Yilan County is a very interesting places with two completely different faces. On the one side you have the flat plain and coastal area, on the other the foothills and forested mountains in the east and south. A great place to go on exploration tours!

Chaojing Park on the North Coast, just to the east of Keelung City, is a scenic place great for day trips. There you can fly a kite, hike to Wangyou Valley, and even go snorkeling/scuba diving. The island you can see in the distance is Keelung Islet.

Rail biking on the North Coast at Shen'ao is a fun experience, but because you have to pedal yourself it can get quite hot.

On the east coast of Green Island there are two places every tourist will certainly want to check out, the Zhaori Hot Springs and the Little Great Wall path. Take a hot-spring bath while seeing the sun rise above the Pacific Ocean and walk the short path to high-up pavilions for incredible views of coast and sea.

This is a great place to stay in Taitung County's Chenggong Township. It has two guestrooms, sleeping four in total and you have to rent the whole building. On the second floor is a spacious living room. They have cute cats and a friendly dog too.

Three fine places to visit in Alishan's Shizhuo area. YuYupas is an indigenous-culture center, Ajang Home is a quirky places with art and cats, and FKUO is a tea shop run by a member of the Tsou tribe.
