I am a value traveler who likes to get the most for my travel dollar, but appreciates distinctiveness, graciousness and comfort for the soul as well as the body wherever I sleep and eat. I am not embarrassed to ask for discounts to which I am entitled (advertised specials, AAA, AARP, academic, senior and, when with my husband, veteran). Mostly vegetarian (dairy, eggs and certain fish okay), I enjoy imaginative and tasty cuisine from fresh ingredients with any sort of ethnic flavor and flair, especially at what I consider to be a reasonable and affordable price.
At home and when traveling, we try to take advantage of free and inexpensive/discounted cultural events and to visit sites that are off the beaten track. We travel by public transportation within major cities whenever possible, living like locals and avoiding tourist traps. I love good walking tours within museums and historic neighborhoods with friendly, well-informed guides, especially free tours (we tip generously!).
