If you want to get a feel for quintessential South Side Chicago, you have to make a stop in Hyde Park, one of the city’s most popular neighborhoods. This historic area is home to two of the city’s most prominent cultural institutions, the Museum of Science and Industry and the University of Chicago. A stroll here will bring you past vintage and grand hotels converted into luxury apartment buildings; peaceful gardens, parks and green spaces; and ivy-adorned museums and other cultural institutions that speak to the city’s diversity and architectural beauty.
This museum doesn't get as much attention as it deserves. It houses a fantastic collection of cultural and historical artifacts from the Cradle of Civilization: Mesopotamia, Assyria, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Nubia, Persia, etc. Everything is really well-curated, and it's clear that the staff take great pride in both the museum and in preserving the quality of the artifacts. Admission is...

You have to book a tour to this UNESCO heritage site, but the guides are knowledgable, and friendly. It takes an hour to tour the newly restored house and its a wonder. Good gift shop too with very funny volunteer helpers...
I visited while in the area. I had read about Rockefeller's involvement in U of Chicago and had been wanting to visit. This is a beautiful example of a Gothic Cathedral. I also caught someone practicing on the organ which has a very lovely sound. The outside is covered with lovely Ivy.
We had a brief pizza and salad party with friends at this graffiti laden establishment. They put our group near a large window away from other patrons, which was welcomed considering we had five children, ages 6-10, in our party. They were friendly, speedy, and the pizza and salad were tasty.
I enjoyed breakfast here every morning of my trip to Hyde Park, where I stayed 2 blocks away at the Sophy Hotel. Eggs & pancakes & omelettes & coffee were excellent (very large portions, tasty, and relatively inexpensive), tables were spotless, and counter service was FAST and friendly.

The restaurant is in a newer building at the edge of Hyde Park, just a block from the museum. The menu is wonderful, the traditional italian dishes but also some more innovative seasonal dishes as well. It also includes some Spainsh Tapas dishes. And the wine menu, good wine at very reasonable prices for the City. We liked it, will...
Incredible food and perfect service. I ordered the biscuits with pimento cheese and the scallops both of them were amazing! Leave room for dessert. We ordered the pudding and hummingbirds can fly and we found both exquisite.
A big search for where to settle on our first joint stay in the Windy City, led us to Sophy. My wife and I knew one thing for sure:we wanted to stay in the neighborhood of Hyde Park. Never did we imagine that we would discover this gem.. What a find! From the moment we stepped inside of this well-appointed,...
It was a safe and comfortable place for me to be during a very stressful situation. It was a very hard day for me and knowing I had a safe and clean place to sit down and reflect on my situation, made it a bit easier to get through.
