History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
Very unusual building with unique internal shape and form; a gem for photography. Now the shops inside do detract from viewing the place and taking photos from an architectural viewpoint but definitely best to use it for something than just let it be a mausoleum
I last visited this museum in the 90's. I was awe inspired by it and bought the complete works of Lu Xun in English. Much of these books I read and online commentaries offered a much greater understanding.
I loved this museum. But it has been modernised and it seems to have lost a bit of its charm. Sure a...
Amazing experience at woobar with the lovely bartender Chain and Sophie! Chain’s recommendation was the best - and he’s been such a lovely bartender for us. I will definitely come back to meet Chain and his colleages!:)

We were looking for a wonderful dining experience in Shanghai and Xindalu happened to be the only restaurant open in the entire Bund area. We were not disappointed as the food was absolutely delicious, well presented and brought to our table in a timely manner. We did not choose from the menu but asked Jane, the waitress to choose for...

the breakfast buffet is cancelled due to coronavirus issue but we still enjoyed the local and occidental breakfast menu.
Very pleasant experience.
A really excellent lunch- well cooked food from a great selection and enjoyed with a great bunch of old friends
The menu is a good choice of dishes from dim sum to great seafood. We had a good selection and shared. I think including drinks it was around £30 a head but more than enough for 8 hungry guys
My husband and I stayed here early Jan. 2020, We had the Terrace River room. The view was very nice at night. The lady at the front desk whose name is Elly Yuan was super helpful and she was trying to make our stay as perfect as possible.
We went to two restaurants were all great too. I had a...

Stayed here in New Year 2019 - great location to the river and the bund - everything on your doorstep. Their Teppanyaki restaurant was the highlight - not cheap but amazing food and quality vintage wine and we were treated like royalty with our own room with chef and waitresses - nothing was too much trouble.
