Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighborhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and 60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and 90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighborhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
Berlin is filled with history, I unfortunately had not enough time to see as much as I wanted to see, but next time I'll come for leisure. This is a monument considering the past, terrifying what happened in those years before and during war, and it's important that we never forget, to keep it the way we are at least...
Trains, planes and automobiles! There is a lot to see here for everyone. While it may not require an all-day visit, it could take a while to thoroughly see everything -- like a Smithsonian American History museum trip.
One of my favourite galleries in Berlin - always interesting exhibitions plus an excellent upper floor display of the history of Berlin art. Highly recommended but, beware, the cafe doesn't accept credit cards .... like many places in Berlin.
We nipped in her as a family for a quick lunch before travelling to the airport. The building was stunning with an impressive garden art display however we didn't have time to explore it. Lunch however we did. the food was incredibly fresh, they grow their own horns and sales in UV cabinets on site. the schnitzel sandwiches were delicious...
Our dinner at FES Turkish BBQ was splendid. Right from the moment we entered and were seated on our table. The service is super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing. Each of our dishes were fantastic. Still talking about the rice (yes, rice :D). Thank you FES Team, we will definitely come back very soon!
I have visited this restaurant for lunch.
Went for the a selection of 5 course lunch meal with the addition of the peking duck. The food was fantastic. The amuse bouches before the courses were amazing. All courses without exception were special and remarkably good. Had a bottle of Gewürztraminer which was also amazing.
The service was attentive and friendly....
Love this hotel. Meets all my needs, and super friendly. Always look forward to going back. A fine place in Kreuzberg. Have now stayed there three times and happily recommend it to others who like smaller, friendlier places.
"Far from Grim - a wonderful hotel that tells a story while proving you with everything you could want and more!"

My partner and I stayed here for two nights to explore Berlin, picking the hotel for it's quirky decor and theme and definitely weren't disappointed! All the rooms and public areas are winningly/tasefully decorating with fairytale stories giving an interesting edge to an efficient, clean and polished hotel. The staff are very friendly and efficient - even gifting us a...
The rooms were a good size and well appointed, the bar was pleasant and the staff we met were all welcoming and polite.
Only 2 gripes are:
- The volume of the air con, it woke both my son and I up at about 3am on the final night so might not be one for light sleepers
- The pillows...
We arrived early and room not ready so went out for walk. Came back and attempted to use restaurant for lunch only to be told it was full due to a conference. There was no other area to eat, the bar area is shut off in the day. So there is not actual hotel lounge just the reception sofa's. Been...
Nice hotel with friendly staff. Room was clean with comfortable enough bed and an adequate en-suite bathroom. Missed having a safe and tea/coffee making facilities in the room however. Hotel is close to u-bahn station and there is plenty of cafes, shops etc in the vicinity. Overall the hotel offered good value for money and would definately use again.
