How I wish half of the most recent reviews had surfaced before we booked several months ago. I urge you to look at the common themes of the less vitriolic critical reviews before you book - there's no smoke without fire. I also look forward to the copy/paste reply of the

Dear Sir, Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback about your stay in our establishment, Le Vieux Castillon. I’m glad to read your satisfaction regarding the atmosphere of the hotel and it comfort. Our priority being the satisfaction of our guests, let me tell you that we always pay great attention to the review of our guests in order to constantly improve their experience. However, I think it’s important to clarify some of your remarks, which are sometimes incomplete or even unjustified, and I think that for some, there was a misinterpretation. Our guests have a panel of opinions and photos on our hotel which show for the vast majority their satisfaction. The charm of our hotel, Le Vieux Castillon, is linked to its location in a medieval village, with magnificent cobbled streets. If the location doesn’t allow us to have an optimal internet speed such as you could have in downtown, our wifi is however functional. We have many seminars that use our place to organize a work meeting. We also have a large selection of TV channels, including international ones. Most of our rooms have showers and some bathtubs. You are free to specify your wish, if you want to, at the time of booking. Regarding the swimming pool area, you forgot to specify that there are, in addition to the deckchairs some sofas allowing about fifteen people to settle down very comfortably. At the time of your arrival we experienced exceptionally hot temperatures, more than 40°C. This resulted in an unusual and significant attendance of the swimming pool space, mobilizing our teams. Our waiters were well present in the pool area, but maybe less available that expected. We apologize for this and will be more vigilant. These high temperatures also caused technical problems like the leakage of a cooling system engine, which your photo shows. It’s of course not moisture. We repaired the damaged part since you left. All our common areas are cleaned every day. The majority of our reviews compliment the cleanliness of our hotel. It’s also true that there is lot of people and we’re unfortunately not safe that a group of people could smoke between two passages. It can also happen that the wind or the wrong handling of a parasol causes its breakage. We always try to manage as quickly as possible this kind of technical problems. For dining, we offer our guests a restricted pool card for functional and safety reasons but also the possibility to lunch at our restaurant for those wishing more choice and comfort. For your information, the menu of the day, with is proposed for lunch in addition to the card, is at 32 euros during the week end 42 euros during the weekend. We also offer a discovery menu at 68 euros. So it seems to me that our food offer is rather large and at fairly affordable rates contrary to what you wrote. Regarding the beer, the one at 12 euros that you mention is 50cl, the 33 cl being at 7 euros ans the pressure at 6 euros. The local wine glass starts at 8 euros and then increase according to the vintage. Most of our cocktails are around 14 euros. These rates are rather a standard for a 4**** luxury hotel. It seems astonished that a person who has traveled a lot like you is surprised. As you mentioned in your review, our restaurant is often full, testifying to the quality of the dishes served and the satisfaction of our customers. We sincerely apologize if you didn’t fully appreciate your stay in our establishment and remain at your disposal, Sincerely, Jeremie Achiardy, Director
