Beautiful and historic, but the buffet and scenery give it this score...

This is a difficult one. No hotel could have a better position, with almost 270 degrees of fjord round it. Definitely worth paying for a fjord view room in the old building. This old wooden building part of the hotel is amazing. Over a hundred years old - so expect some old

Dear Archiesenior, Thank you for reviewing us and helping us improve. We are glad to learn you enjoyed your stay, and that our location was appriciated. A warm thank you for the praise of our kitchen. We are sorry that your experience in our dining room was not as expected. We strive to have an optimal mix of guests, and we have taken measures to prevent impressions like yours. We will have your feedback in mind when considering new measures for next year. Our post modern building from the 60's and 70's is a expansion of our hotel that is difficult for some to understand. For the hotel it is an important part its history, and a very important reason why we are able to preserve and maintain our historic building. Due to increased demand, my grand parents started the process of building the expansion in the 1960's. As the historic building is an important proof of trends and architechture from 1880 to early 1900, this post modern building is now an important proof of the trends in the 60's and 70's, which we are proud of. The trends at that time was not only the type of architechture that is critized by many today, but it was also important that it was functional and effecient. It started as a 5 floor building with 39 rooms in 1965. At that time many of our guests refused to stay in the historic building, as it was considered dated and not trendy. My grand parents even had architechts to draw examples of how the historic building could be demolished, and replaced with a building similar to the one they had built in 1965. Luckily, they decied to keep the hotel and family history and in stead expanded the new building to keep the revenue at a level where they were able to continue maintain the historic building while running the hotel. Our familly has decided to keep this philosphy, and therefore we continue to maintain history in stead of demolishing. We strive to maintain the standards inside our newer building and it is therefore in a continuous process of renovation. This year we completely renovated 52 rooms, and we continue to renovate during this winter. We trully appriciate your honesty, and we understand why people ask questions to our newer building as it is a totally different type of architechture. We can however thank this building that we have been able to run our hotel for now 140 years, in 5 generations. I hope we can get the pleasure of welcoming you again to Kviknes Hotel, and next time I can give you a tour in our post modern building and tell you more about the history. Best regards Theodor 5th Generation Host
