Designed by the well known Ottoman era architect "Mimar Sinan" on the orders of Sultan Suleiman the magnificent and inaugurated in 1557, the iconic Suleymaniye mosque was made to function as a kuliye(complex) with public kitchens, Hammams(baths), public clinic, religious school and it later housed moseleums of Sultan Suleman and his wife Hurrem Sultan.
