    A fun, walkable zoo
We really enjoyed this zoo because so many of the animals are in their natural cold. The polar bear was out being adorable and playful, and just seemed to be overall happy. As someone with slight disabilities in my legs, it was a bit difficult to get around due to the snow conditions, but overall the zoo is a great size for walking around.

    A small, but wonderful zoo
The Alaska Zoo is a small Zoo in Anchorage that mostly has anymals from the norther climate. If you are in Anchorag in winter, you will be able to see most animals as their most beautiful fluffy selves (save for the bears, they will be snoozing). When my kids were young I had a family pass so that we could come for walks here.

Wonderful zoo even in the winter
Outdoor zoo - got to see many of the animals native to Alaska, with the exception of the snow leopard (hiding). The black bears waited until after lunch to climb out of their den, but it was worth going back around to see them wrestling in the snow. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Enclosures were clean. The moose was hiding as well - could not blame him/her, as it was cold. Use care on the pathways, as they get icy with lots of foot traffic. Great place to take the kids. My favorite was the polar bear.

nice easy day at the zoo
We had a blast at the zoo, pricing was great and our kids got to take their time at each exhibit, the zoo was the right size. The bears and eagles were amazing to see. We missed the polar bears, so if we were to do it again we would have gone to see them first vs last in our process. The kids had a blast, the staff was friendly and we really had a great time.

    A nice zoo!
This is a great, little zoo! The free shuttle service (must be reserved online in advance) made it easy to enjoy this attraction. Was I able to see every animal? No. But that’s the case with any zoo I’ve been too. Each animal has a plaque with their story for why they have to stay in the zoo. Quite a few of the animals were extremely active. I arrived right at 9 which probably helped. Some areas were buggy but there were plenty of spaces with no bugs, too. The paths are gravel, which is something you may need to consider, depending on your group. I spent 2 hours here but could have spent more.

    Take your children
The place is small, but it's worth a visit. They're doing good for the animals. My only complaints were, There was a gala that day that they didn't have it on their site. We paid our money for the day only to find out they were closing at 3 o'clock, which was kind of rushed. The other issue was that they were cleaning the park up and different animal pens getting it ready for the gala. So some of the animals were not out at that time to see which was a huge disappointment. My other issue is I understand that they try to keep their cages in a natural state, but you can't see the animals at all. They are so overgrown with weeds. I have been to other sanctuaries just like this and you can at least see the animals. I would recommend this to people as a day trip especially if you have children I think it's a very nice place

    Focus on Alaskan animals
I visited this zoo because my trip to see brown bears at Lake Clark was canceled. It’s a great place to end a trip because you can see any animals you missed seeing in the wild (or see them up close rather than briefly at a distance). Highlights include the bears: black, brown and especially the playful polar bear that did belly flops in its enclosure’s water. There are musk ox, eagles, caribou and wolverines, too. Many of the animals were brought in with injuries or were orphaned, so there’s no guilt about seeing them in captivity! Unfortunately, the enclosures are mostly multiple layers of chain link and other fences that obscure views of the animals, and the zoo is a bit worn and in need of a refresh, but it was a good way to spend a few hours.
