This museum, located at The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, is one of the finest medical history museums in America. The Mütter Museum is a 19th century style cabinet museum displaying medical artifacts such as anatomical specimens and medical instruments. Marvel at the beauty and strangeness of the human body. NOTICE FOR 2017: There will be no elevator access to the Mütter Museum for all of January and February 2017. The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, home of The Mütter Museum and Historical Medical Library, will be installing a new elevator from January 1st, 2017. Our new elevator will drastically improve access to our collections and events and visitors will be able to enjoy regular access as of early March, 2017. From January 1st - end of February, anyone unable to navigate stairs will not be able to get into our building. There will not be a ramp. Additionally, due to installation of an exciting new exhibit, access to the gallery currently hosting our Vesalius exhibit will be restricted from mid-January until early March, 2017. More details about this new exhibit will be released shortly. We apologize sincerely for any and all inconvenience that this will inevitably cause, however this vital and important maintenance to our historic building will greatly enhance our visitor experience going forward. Thank you so much for your patience.

    A great experience
I thought it was fantastic. Went with my friends and we are all trained historians/museum professionals. Thought the displays were fascinating and the museum tackled hard subjects with grace. Particularly noted the memorial outside to all of the subjects. The gift shop was also great. Would definitely recommend a trip here. There’s nothing else like it.

    Can’t wait to go back!
So interesting! Just happened to find this when in Philly a few days last year. Loved seeing the oddities and learning how they came to be. Didn’t make it back this last trip but hope to go again soon!

    Amazing, thought provoking.
Amazing experience. Some things you can read about and think you understand but seeing in person is absolutely another level. The people with me were less appreciative of all the horrors and wonders that the human body can develop into and be affected by. It is a small museum but I don't think I saw everything. I'd definitely go back. I'll be thinking about some of the exhibits for a long time.

Mutter off my to do list
Prior to going I read reviews on here and cannot agree the place was ghoulish. I found it very interesting to see though I knew due to work, the previous healthcare procedures and tools used. Even procedures like radiation, providing treatment are so much better and the many weird things that occur such as conjoined twins are there to see; skulls from deceased and how they passed, body organs and diseases all very interesting. One important note is from our home to the museum was so easy to get there and to park. Great opportunity if you can take it. I cannot provide photos as they are disallowed.

    Interesting, creepy, and worth visiting!
What a unique place! My dad worked here in college and recommended I go when I was in Philly for a conference. I took my collegue/friend and we "enjoyed" it. I put quotes becuase it was not exactly enjoyable, but it was interesting and definitely worth the visit. Be ready for bizarre and only visit if you are ok with body parts in jars, lots of skeletons, and lots of odd fetuses. I was thankful that the people visiting were all quite respectful and there was an air of genuine curiosity.

Always love coming to the Mutter Museum
Have been to the Mutter Museum at least 4 times but my husband had not. So it was his turn. We loved it and the changing exhibits (this time about Polio and the Iron Lung) was most informative. Met a worker there, nice guy, don't remember name, he showed up the Library/classroom/ballroom and he explained the history. Very interesting. It makes you thankful for good health.
