    Totally impressed
I'm a "zoo junkie" and go to them wherever I can. I've also been on Safaris in Africa twice. What impressed me most were the habitats that have been created for the animals. They have more room than I've ever seen in a city zoo. Also, the "hospital" was really impressive. The volunteers were really knowledgeable and were able to answer all of my questions and offer even more info. Great place!

    Definitely Visit
This was one of the best zoos we’ve been to. So close to our hotel, and it felt totally secluded. Loved getting to see so many animals up close. Helped we had a beautiful November day to walk the park. Highly recommend.

    Elephants, Giraffes, hippo OH MY!
We have been to several zoos and the Denver Zoo is by far the best! We went on a whim, and are so glad we did. You don't even know you're in the middle of a big city. We went on a cool, rainy overcast day, but most of the animals were out and we had the best time watching the elephants. Their habitat is amazing. They have 6, in a bachelor pack, there now. The staff is so knowledgeable and wanting to tell you abt their special animals.

Should be recognized as one of the top five US zoos
My daughter and I are zoo geeks and often travel in the US just to visit zoos. We planned a trip to the Denver Zoo specifically to see Prezwalski horses, which are not often on exhibit. We enjoyed being able to see the Prezwalski horses in their large paddock, but were absolutely floored by the rest of the zoo. The orangutan exhibit was the best, most naturalistic enclosure of any zoo we've visited. The elephant exhibit was similarly impressive, but it was the show that knocked our socks off. The seating area is in front of a water feature, meaning the elephants get quite close to you. Part of the show involves the elephants getting into the water and swimming, and then spraying water from their trunks. Wow! Never saw anything like that before. There is a state of the art veterinary facility with viewing windows so if you time your visit right you can watch an actual veterinary procedure. The daily schedule includes many keeper talks which really enrich your experience. We visited the San Diego Zoo and Sand Diego Safari Park several times last year, but this visit to the Denver Zoo was right up there with those visits and in some ways exceeded those visits. We also visited the Omaha zoo last year because it regularly appears on lists of top zoos. The Denver Zoo was significantly better in every way than the Omaha Zoo. We'll definitely come back to the Denver Zoo, probably adding it to our regular zoo visit rotation.

Only wish I had more time...
A great way to spend the day. Reasonable admission and parking is free. (Note that, as per the website, advanced ticketing is required at this time. Morning entry is also restricted during the week at this time to accommodate the volume of school groups.) Pretty big zoo so have your walking shoes primed and ready to hike. Very easy to get around, though, with mostly flat terrain and well maintained walkways. Staff and volunteers here are very knowledgeable and engaging. I encountered many crew members interacting with guests. Presentations are well done. Elephant training demo was a must and Billy was awesome in his participation...and he loves his broccoli. There are many cool, uncommon critters here not often seen and they have successful SSP husbandry programs resulting in new blood for the survival of these rarities. Specifically, the Malayan tapir...and Rinny was very active. And the gerenuk, a seldom encountered member of the antelope family. New baby kudu getting zoomies was a highlight and the playful interactions with Penny, the gerenuk, were unexpected. The elephant facility is impressive and the dynamics of the bachelor herd and it's purpose are an integral part of the SSP. Unfortunately, the bridge in elephant passage wasn't in use because of the necessity for creative arrangement of the occupants so missing that was a bummer since it's unlikely I'll be making a trip to Denver again soon. Mahali getting the zoomies was a surprise and he really wanted to sink his bouy. There is a carousel, train and 4D theater as well as feeding opportunities for lorikeets and stingrays. Note that 'Down Under' is still under construction but set to open to the public soon.

Denver Zoo: a diamond in Colorado
Denver zoo is a beautiful zoo with a central focus on Africa that allows you around the continent while visiting other iconic continents and their animals. Zoo designers have done a great job of brining the culture and decor of each habitat to life so you can get a sense of the habitat around the animal(s). There were a few closed areas for renovations but all and all a great zoo. How does it compare to some of the legends? I like it better than Omaha’s Zoo and the Smithsonian zoo in D.C. (dare I say?). I believe this zoo invests in the experience and environment around the zoo as you walk and rest and not just the animals and their extravagance. It’s also set in a pretty area with other attractions nearby. That should count for something.

    Ok zoo
We went on a Saturday afternoon and parking was definitely a challenge. The weather was hot so the animals were not very active so wish we would have went in the morning. The workers were all very friendly. Bottle of water was way too expensive but that is everywhere.

    An absolute must see
Me (21) and my friend (32) went together to explore the Denver Zoo. At first I was worried about its size and if it was going to be able to be an all day thing. It absolutely was! There is so much to see! All of the employees were super kind and actually showed enthusiasm about their jobs, even the people at the food stands. There are so many animals and so many things to do. It is definitely an all day thing as we arrived 30 minutes after opening and left only 30 minutes before close. Absolutely recommend.

    Crowded but fun.
There were a lot of people there for a Thursday morning, but overall it was a very nice zoo. It was a hot day, but there was a lot of shade and a lot of places to get water and misting stations. The best exhibit in my opinion was the orangutans. There was a full family with a mom, dad, child, and infant, doing family things. They were adorable and entertaining.

Good way to spend an afternoon
Spent an afternoon here when we had time to kill before starting our road trip north. Pretty nice assortment of animals and we were able to see a lot. Many food locations and well located restrooms and we also really enjoyed the gift shop. Loved the penguins!
