We loved this museum; in fact we thought the whole precinct surrounding Botero Plaza is pretty special. There are 23 massive bronze sculptures by Fernando Botero in the plaza and then a very large number of his paintings including many extraordinary, arresting portraits in the gallery - with all the works donated by the artist himself. He also donated a lot of the other artworks on display to the museum. Photography is not allowed of any of the paintings by Botero but is OK in the sections of the museum. There is an entrance fee of 40,000 CLP and I thought it was money well spent. I would also recommend the restaurant downstairs in the museum building, El Social Maestro. It was quite busy when we visited (lunchtime) so service was a bit slow, but the meals came in generous servings, were very reasonably priced and were delicious

This is my favorite museum in Medellin. I love the permanent exhibition of over 100 of Botero's paintings. As many know, Botero is famous for his depiction of "fat people" and the Parque Botero (located in front of the museum) is known for its collection of statues created by Botero. Before visiting this Museum, I wasn't aware that Botero was also a painter, and seeing his paintings gave me a deeper understanding and appreciation of Botero's signature style. I am deducting one star from this review because visitors to the museum are not allowed to take photos of Botero's paintings (or anything displayed on the 3rd floor). There were two paintings of Botero that I especially liked, and I was hoping to find a magnet or a postcard featuring at least one of the two paintings. Unfortunately, the museum store is very limited, and the items on offer only features a small number of Botero's paintings, none of which were the ones that interested me. I would encourage the museum to charge a fee to let visitors photograph Botero's paintings, or else offer a more extensive selection of magnets/postcards/posters, etc. of his work. This would be a great way to expand Botero's fame and encourage others to visit the museum.

Amazing art, great building. I really enjoyed spending time and walking around. Very interesting rooms with pictures of the old Antioquia. This is pretty amazing, get a long with the modern aisle and Botero's painting or see some more classical paintings. If you insist you may even get a traditional "cafe" or a bite to eat at the edge of the museum. I always have a soft spot and purchased a traditional bowl made by a master ceramist.

The artist, Fernando Botero, donated most of his artwork to his hometown of Medellin and Bogota. We had first visited the Botero Museum in Bogota before our visit to the Medellin museum so we were able to compare both of them. This Medellin museum has great artwork from Botero (including two noteworthy paintings about the death of Pablo Escobar), but I thought the non-Botero artwork was not as good as we had seen in Bogota. Sadly, no pictures are allowed within the Botero exhibit, but pictures are allowed elsewhere in the museum.

It is definitely a beautiful museum, starting with the architecture and views of the main square of the city as well as the splendid curation. The stories told by the museum, from the entire floor dedicated to Botero as well as the extensive display of Colombian and international art make this a must-see. It is one of the Top-rated museums you have ever been to in the whole world and has nothing to envy to others of its kind in Europe or the United States.

This museum used to be the city hall but has now been transformed to house the impressive collection of famed Colombian/Italian artist, the great Fernando Botero. He was born in Medellin and has donated 100+ paintings to the museum. The plaza it sits in is also named after him, Plaza Botero, with its 23 chubby, rubenesque statues scattered throughout. You should start at the top floor with Botero’s earliest works and move down to see how his work has developed. There are also international artists here too who provide a vast array of complementary works in this gallery. Audio guide is available, so too a small café whose coffee you can enjoy in the courtyard.

We loved this museum and we are usually not fans of art galleries. The main exhibition is by Botero (I am definitely a fan now). However there are many themed room showing other artists in many formats. We loved gne exhibition that was the result of 8 years working with communities. The building itself is a work of art. Clean toilets and easy lift access. About £8 admission but very much worth it. We spent several hours here. There is a shop and two eateries in the complex too.

In front of Botero Square, it houses paintings, drawings and sculptures of the master, as well as contemporary collections, which tell the history of art in Antioquia. In the middle of the old center, vibrant, full of people, vintage and music. It certainly takes at least half a day to tour.

It is a museum with a wide range of works, both sculptures, paintings and sketches by very renowned artists. On the third floor you can find works by Fernando Botero that complement the sculptures in Botero Park that are just outside the museum. It also has temporary exhibitions. and places to rest, eat, have a drink or buy souvenirs.

Worth the visit! Plan on 90 minutes. Spend most of your time in the Botero wing on the third floor. Lots of good contemporary art (not the crazy stuff). Make sure to check out all the Botero sculptures in the square, but be mindful of safety. Wallets in front and phones firmly gripped.
