- AnnaritaMontecarlo, Italy79 contributionsAmazing scenery in SingaporeAs soon as we got off the Chinatown stop we were catapulted into a completely different context from that of Singapore. No skyscrapers or shiny, elegant shops, but small shops selling typically Chinese junk, all made redder than usual due to the imminent Chinese New Year. To eat there are many Asian restaurants, but the real Chinese food truck can only be found on the first floor of the central market! The Chinese of Singapore dine there and the dishes offered are the most disparate, some a little disturbing, such as boiled chicken feet or strange white balls floating in the broth... The main temple and the nearby Hindu temple which is located a few meters away are beautiful. A must see if you visit Singapore to see something differentVisited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 2, 2024
- eVe 🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬Singapore, Singapore1,527 contributionsNice murals...safe...but a bit manufacturedThe interesting things about Chinatown for a local like me are the wall murals and the food. For travellers, it would be the vibes especially during Chinese New Years, shops selling all types of souvenirs, murals stretching all the way to Telok Ayer and the food. Importantly, very safe unlike the Chinatown in other countries. Do visit the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple 👍 👍 👍. Nearest MRT - Chinatown Station, Maxwell Station, Telok Ayer Station Nearest Hawker Center - Chinatown HC, Maxwell HC, People's Park HC, Amoy Street HC, Lau Pat SatVisited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 5, 2024
- cliff1608334 contributionsSame Same !!!!Went here on a Friday night to visit hawker centre, got there about half past eight and the place was rammed, found food centre and because of the time most places were shutting down as run out of food. Battled our way around the streets looking at the same tat in nearly every shop. Worth a visit but just don’t expect too much.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 6, 2024
- Maratom64Germany1,834 contributionsVery touristyIt is very touristy, many souvenir shops offer T-shirts, bags, cups and other mementos. When we visited at the end of November 2023, you could easily walk through the alleys, it was well attended but not overcrowded. It was quite nice.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 12, 2024
- philb92Meltham, United Kingdom308 contributionsMust visitVisited during the start of the Chinese New Year festival and the place was heaving. Tried the hawker centre but the queues were very long so went to a small local restaurant which provided an excellent meal at a reasonable price. Went back to Chinatown later on during the day and it was much less crowded and more enjoyableVisited January 2024Written February 18, 2024
- GeorgiePerth, Australia391 contributionsChinatown New Year delightDue to the new year celebrations, we visited Chintatown 3 times during our stay in Singapore. We walked away with purchases after each visit - little souvenirs and gifts to give away to family and friends, and of course, for ourselves. The night time display of the New Year celebrations was wonderful to see. It is very see to get to Chinatown via cab or via the MRT, with Chinatown and Maxwell being the main stations. Well worth a visit.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 21, 2024
- rzeczpospolitaLondon, United Kingdom509 contributionsLess vibrant than other Chinatowns in the regionThere’s something about Singapore’s Chinatown that just didn’t connect with me, particularly when compared with others in the region — and notably that of nearby Kuala Lumpur. This Chinatown lacks pretty back alleys and quaint, lantern-lit eateries and cocktail bars. Though, as everywhere in Singapore, there are some good hawker markets for food. Too much tourist tat being sold too. So, nothing special in my estimation.Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten February 26, 2024
- jennybukoGran Canaria, Spain174 contributionsChinatownLots to see and taste. There is something for everyone at the Maxwell market and the prices are reasonable. There are also lots of stalls and restaurants, it is very busy and anyone looking for a souvenir is sure to find one here.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 15, 2024
- PriscillaFPerth, Australia2,161 contributionsGreat area. Enjoyed our time thereWe caught the train to Chinatown and straight away we went into a shopping complex where prices were reasonable and in fact quite cheap compared to other places we had been. An hour foot massage was only $25. Loads of massage place, beauty, jewellery etc. we also went across the street to another mall. Overall our view of Chinatown is everything is affordable and you will find What you are looking for here. Highly recommended.Visited March 2024Traveled soloWritten March 30, 2024
- RooombiterIsle of Wight, United Kingdom885 contributionsWe love Chinatown! We love wandering around Chinatown, when in Singapore, it’s relaxed, nobody really hassles you to buy anything, even the guys trying to measure you up for a suit seem to have disappeared and that is quite sad! Anywhere that has a Tintin shop has to be a special place…Chinatown is so different at various times throughout the day too and the MRT is right there. Lots of shops and stalls to browse and places to eat that are not crazy pricey. We are looking forward to returning already.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 26, 2024
