    Home to many early artifacts
The Amman Citadel is home to many Jordanian artifacts. This downtown Citadel has a long history of occupation by many great civilizations. Many empires lived here over the centuries and the Citadel of Amman is considered to be among the world's oldest continuously inhabited places.

    Rich History
Amman Citadel offers spectacular remnants of the land's rich history. The Citadel overlook the amphitheater and also the panoramic view of the city. For history enthusiasts, and want to learn more about the place, you can hire certified guides for a fee. I do recommend visiting in the late afternoon and stay for the sunset. The city becomes golden with the mesmerizing sunset. Free with Jordan Pass.

Stunning views and site in the middle of the city!
The Citadel has stunning views over the city! There is a rich history and lots of different areas of the site to see and visit. You can also climb up on most of the ruins to get up close and personal! It can get a bit crowded, so be patient. You can make this trip as short or as long as you want, depending on how much you want to see.

    Best Views of Amman Here,
I took a taxi to reach this place. I showed my Jordan Pass and easily entered . There are several signagess allng the way that explained this attraction. The most photograped area is where the remaining columns stand. Noted some tourists climbing on the ruins for better photo shots. Note that there is a small museum here to visit. For me, I enjoyed most here are the views of the Amman down below. Due to its high location, I could see both the old and new neighborhoods of Amman. Tip: There is a small Restroom for one’s use near the Entrance Area.

    Very photogenic
The remains of the Temple of Zeus make this a very photogenic location. As the highest point in Amman, it also has a commanding view over the city. The small museum has some interesting exhibits, including some of the oldest human statues reportedly ever discovered. The cafe outside the entrance has a nice terrace and is good value for money.

Great view of the hills of Amman from the Citadel
It is a quaint place. Not really much to see. Beautiful view of the Hills of Amman. Go there on a sunny day so you can take pictures of kids playing football next to the ancient Greek temple of Hercules (or was it Roman?). The walk through the ruins of Ummayad palace takes you to another nice view of the hills of Amman. The view of the Roman theater from the top of citadel is beautiful. I felt sad visiting this place. This hill top citadel for the Greeks, then for Romans, than for Ummayads, Ayyubids (not sure if Abbasids had a presence) but there is nothing left of such long history. Amman must have been a thriving town for last 1300 years that very few places in the world can be provide of.

    Worth a visit
A very beautiful site, clear paths around and stunning views across parts of Amman and down to the Roman amphitheatre. Wonderful to see so much history. Good signage at the beginning. There was a well presented and varied archeological museum too. We had a guide with us who was able to explain other parts of the site that weren’t signed. Great start to our holiday.

    Mindblowing archaeological site
Amazing and stunning place. Mindblowing when i 1st entered here. It had a great history. Most of the structures still visible at the site are from the Roman, Byzantine, and Umayyad periods.Great phototaking place. Beautiful pictures taken at The uncompleted Roman Temple of Hercules. Those who came to Amman must visit this place.

Arrive an hour before it closes - Amman Citadel
The citadel was a miss for me. They have a policy where you have to be there, buy the ticket, then enter an hour before the Amman Citadel will close. I arrived 15-minutes late and just got a glimpse outside before sunset. It has a great view outside the gates anyway. Please remember to come early and don’t miss the opportunity to visit this historic piece in Jordan.
