    A place of significance
This was a fantastic experience to learn about the many occupations of Latvia. Prior to this, I knew little about the subject. This museum had a wealth of detailed information and images, historical items, and simple, immersive effects that left a profound impact on me. It has left me inspired by the hope and strength of the Latvian people. As such, I would recommend everyone to visit this place of significance. For just €5, this was excellent value for money to spend at least a couple of hours.

    Wonderful museum, very informative
Really wonderful museum. Very immersive experience, with lots of different ways to learn about Latvia’s past and how the Nazis and Soviets effected the nation. We opted for the audio guide (extra €2 per person, tickets were €10 each) and it was very informative, would definitely recommend. There were teenagers there on a school trip, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend for children. There was a little Teddy Bear called Mikis that could help explain things for children, but honestly I think there is far too much for children to go. But if you’re all adults / teens and you have the time (think we were about about 90-120 minutes) I would definitely recommend it.

    Fascinating
We did this museum really as a time filler before we departed Riga. However I would definitely recommend visitors make this a goto sight. Although aware that Latvia was invaded by Russia/Germany/Russia I was not aware of the effects this had on the peoples of Latvia. The personal stories of the occupied are heartbreaking but need to be told. Hopefully Latvia will remain an independent country and not suffer occupation again.

Educational and extensive museum - a must see when in Riga
This museum was in the top range on my bucket list for things to see and do when in Riga this past Christmas. Having previously in 2023 visited the Museum of Occupation in Vilnius, I expected this one to be similar, and yes, it was and it wasn't - in the best of ways. I still find it sufficient to compare the two, if only for the sake of my own interests. The one in Vilnius was among the most harrowing museum experiences I've ever had, particularly because the premises it is located on, carry historical weight. That is not necessarily the case with this one, but it was still a meaningful and educational experience to visit it. Somehow it feels like this museum carries a more hopeful tune, especially when it comes to its country's independence and seemingly bright future. This is a museum with an important story to tell. As is the case with many a museum in former Soviet colonies, it is intent on getting across the point that Nazism and Communism are only two sides of the same genocidal coin. I learned a lot from visiting this museum, particularly about the Soviet deportation of people from the Baltic States, a topic of which I knew next to nothing before 2023. It goes into equal detail about the Nazi occupation and the Soviet occupation of Latvia, and ends on a positive note, in celebrating their relatively new-found independence. 1991 isn't that long ago, after all. Additionally the staff were very pleasant and friendly, and I walked away from this museum with a book about Russian imperialism in hand. Seemed like a very topical and relevant purchase in this day and age. This museum is definitely worth a visit when coming to Riga.

The best museum to understand Latvia
Brilliant 2 hour tour with me and one other gentleman from the US. Tour guide was brilliant and gave me a brilliant insight into the history and politics of modern-day Latvia. One of the best tours I have been on, and a must-visit for anyone in Riga! Only €5 is brilliant value for a tour of an excellent museum (I am a student).

    Snowy day to remember .
What a wonderful museum this is! There were four of us and we opted for a tour. The guide was fabulous .This museum is modern and the design is impressive but it is the inside that we loved , the way the exhibits are displayed makes it an wholly enjoyable experience.Thank you Nikoljas.

The no. 1 Must See in Latvia 🙏You will understand why….
Must see! You will not understand anything of Latvias history, identity, mentality and many other things, if you don’t visit this this and other similar museums in Riga/Latvia. Everything is being explained here. NB: It is okay if you start crying. It means that you are human 🙏

    The fight for independence
Everyone should visit this museum, which shows what could happen to Ukraine , if Putin prevails and the difficulties of small nations staying independent when adjoining large powerful nations. The museum charts the Russian take over from 1940 to the early 90’s and independence , with a few years of German occupation. Entrance fee is €5 and it's modern, with a lot of information to view. Also worth seeing is the KGB museum in Riga.

    Absolutely superb
Wonderful, amazing, thought provoking, sobering. Whomever was responsible for organising the exhibits and injecting so many personal stories into the horrible factual history take a bow. This is a MUST when in Riga.
