    Really worth a visit
Great views! We took the funicular which costs €2 per adult for a return journey. This is so worth the cost as the stairs up look steep! Not much to do other than take great photos over the city of the new town and the old town. We didn't go into the castle tower. Go round the left side of the cathedral building (as you stand facing the front) and you will find the entrance for the funicular - it's not that easy to find! Entrance up the stairs is in the park.

Lots of history with great views
I visited in June this year whilst in Lithuania and you can visit for free if you go on the last Sunday of the month, normally the tower is 6 euro's . They were doing some restoration but most if it was open. It's really worth a visit. You can either walk up for free or take the lift for a charge. Amazing history and views over Vilnius

    Beautiful Views
Came to Vilnius for a last minute break, the views of the river from gediminas are breathtaking even in the middle of winter, we came upto the castle tower twice once by day and once by night, just for the views. The castle tower houses a small museum over several floors with some steep steps and a lookout tower. Views from here are again stunning. There is a funicular to take you up of you don't want to take the steps.

The Hill is Worth it but Skip the Tower Fee
We felt paying 8 euros to enter the tower was a bit steep considering we only spent about 20 minutes inside the small space. There wasn't much to see or do here and we felt the nearby Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania have a better bang for our buck. The tower has a small exhibit to the history of the tower and includes a small iron wolf pelt. There is also a room to explain the Baltic Way including a picture opportunity. The highlight was getting to the top of the tower and looking out over the city and seeing the flagpole. We felt you could enjoy the tower from the outside just as well and easily read up on the exhibitions on your own time. We felt for a castle exhibition this was easily one of the most overpriced ones we went to during our stay in the Baltics. The nearby platform gives similar views of the city and nearby three cross monument. If you have mobility issues we'd recommend not doing this tower but if you want a view from one of the hilltops in Vilnius this would be the place to do it because they have an affordable funicular that is 1 Euro each way. You can pay for a 1 way or round trip at the bottom ticket office for the funicular and if you just want a return you can pay at the bottom before going through the gates.

History and view of Vilnius. You can’t miss it.
Fantastic experience. In addition to a wonderful view of the castle, cathedral and city, the museum tells the story of Vilnius. One section is devoted to the Baltic Way of August 1989 and the liberation of the three Baltic republics. Very moving. Ticket 8€: totally worth it.

Take funicular up and walk down
Short line for 2 euro one-way ticket up the 2-minute funicular to the top of the hill. Cabin holds 16 people and goes quickly. No restrooms on-site. Inside the castle, ask for the “pensioner” rate if you are a senior or student to get half off your visit to the museum and climb the spiral stairs to the top. Great 360 degree views of both old and new, plus the Neris River. Of great historical significance is the hillside grass-painted “Beyond Walls” hands holding each other by Saypes as a tribute to the 2 million people from Vilnius to Tallinn who held hands in a human chain in August 1989 to mark 50 years of signing Soviet non-aggression pact with Germany. Also called the Baltic Way or Baltic chain of freedom. You can also see the Three Crosses Monument in the next hillside but cannot walk there from the top of the tower’s plaza.

    Sunset views
You can't miss the tower, you can see it from all angles as you walk through the town! I went up just before sunset when it gets busy as you can imagine. I took the furnicular (in defence I'd been walking the streets for 8 hours solid). You enter through some buildings on the large river side of the hill. 2 euro currently up, 3 euro return. There was a disabled toilet facility at the cash desk near the furnicular should you be caught short. (There is a free and pretty decent public toilet in the park in front should you need it as well). Once up just wander around marvelling at the panoramic view and waving at those who braved the three crosses to truly get a spectacular view! I brave the stairs/slope on the way down. The slope is very, very steep. And cobbly so I imagine a bit of a slip hazard in the wet. To walk up you go through the park, with the hill on your left, then reach a small river, turn left and you'll see the entrance part way along the road. To find the steps from the top just go to the right of the furnicular. I personally didn't pay to go in the tower. I think probably the view from the three crosses was even better as you are more elevated and get the tower in your sunset shot too. No catering up there but again two places to eat in the park below.
